AAA Review – 05.09.26

By Niz on 10 May 2026

The written word on our so-called sport! Raw | NXT | Evolve | Impact | Smackdown | Backlash

AAA comes to Youtube this week from Auditorio General Jose Maria Arteaga in Queretaro, Mexico. The American announce team is Corey Graves, John Bradshaw Layfield, and Raymond Stereo. It’s time for the best hour of weekly SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT, so let’s watch some lucha libre!

Then, Now, Forever….TOGETHER

Arrivals include La Catalina who will make her AAA in-ring debut tonight, one half of the AAA World Tag Team Champions Psycho Clown who will confront our next arrival, his partner and the other half of the AAA World Tag Team Champions Pagano.

Octagon Jr. vs Cruz del Toro vs Lince Dorado

There’s some acrobatics and Octagon and del Toro combine to send Dorado to the floor. Octagon mashes del Toro with an enziguri and then nails him with an armdrag from the top rope. del Toro breaks up the flurry with a knee to the head and then rolls Octagon into a swinging leglock/body scissors thing before Dorado breaks it up. Dorado hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and a huge clothesline on Octagon that gets two before del Toro breaks it up. del Toro misses a charge and Dorado sends him flying with a helicopter rana. Dorado gets dumped to the apron where he eats an enormous del Toro right hand. del Toro misses a charge and Dorado mashes him with an Asai moonsault. Dorado runs del Toro back in and crushes him with a cross-body that gets two. Dorado rolls into an armbar submission but del Toro fires him into a powerbomb that breaks it up. Octagon flies in with a torneo on both opponents. Octagon armdrags del Toro and then rope walks to hit a rana that sends del Toro to the floor. del Toro yanks Octagon to the floor and then waffles Dorado with a torneo. Octagon hits a top rope splash on del Toro. Octagon rolls del Toro in and hits him with a torneo splash that gets two.

Dorado breaks it up and he and Octagon start slugging it out. Dorado gets the advantage and wallops Octagon with a back handspring cutter, but del Toro breaks up the cover at two. Octagon and del Toro start slugging it out before a kick battle breaks out amongst all three. Everyone hits finishers and we reset with all three down. Octagon and del Toro ascend and Octagon wipes out del Toro with a moonsault body slam. Dorado puts del Toro’s boot on the ropes to break up the count at two. Octagon wipes out Dorado with a dropkick and then ascends. del Toro meets him up there and leaves Octagon in the Tree of Woe. del Toro ascends and goes coast to coast with a dropkick. Dorado breaks up the cover at two with a Shooting Star Press. Dorado yanks del Toro up for a brainbuster and that gets three.

That was a fun opener! Octagon is one of those dudes who can take just about any bump you can dream up, and so he worked well with the two WWE guys. Dorado works very cleanly and rarely looks out of place, while del Toro has put on some weight and now works a bit more deliberately. This all worked, though. 3.5*

Winner – Lince Dorado (brainbuster on del Toro)

Here’s the outside of Marisela Pena’s office and here’s Dorian Roldan lurking there. Here’s Chessman to greet Roldan and tell him that he’s meeting Pena for a meeting about the GM role. Roldan says he’s pretty sure the position is his, but Chessman laughs that off and tells Roldan the only one that should be worried is him.

Jessy Jackson vs La Catalina

Before the bell, here’s AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Flammer out to sit at ringside with the AAA announce team. Jackson offers a clean break off a lock up, and Catalina works a wrist lock. Jackson does some catch wrestling and then yanks Catalina up by her hair. Catalina hits some armdrag takedowns and then mashes a charging Jackson with a high boot. Catalina slips another charge and shows off for the crowd. Catalina hits Jackson with a dropkick that sends her to the floor, and Catalina gives chase and crushes Jackson with a rolling tackle. Catalina stops to pay homage to Marisela Pena, and then tosses Jackson back in. Catalina covers and gets two. Catalina misses a charge and gets caught with a double sledge by Jackson. Jackson waffles Catalina with a Meteora and covers her for two. Jackson goes to ground and pound and covers Catalina for another two count.

Jackson hits a huge chop in a corner, and then starts rifling in more chops. Catalina gets a boot up and then slips another charge. Catalina smashes Jackson with a high kick and then ascends for a missile dropkick. Catalina hits a Hip Attack and covers Jackson for two. Catalina hits some slaps, but Jackson shakes it off and mashes Catalina with a low lariat that gets two. Jackson hits a running elbow but Catalina flies out of the corner with a Baisaku knee that gets two. Catalina ascends but Jackson catches her and drops Catalina to the mat. Jackson hits another massive Meteora that gets two. Jackson clubbers away but Catalina escapes to smash Jackson with a superkick and another Hip Attack. Catalina slams Jackson down and then ascends for a big splash that gets three.

I thought this ruled as a back-and-forth physical affair. I liked that Jackson got a bunch of offense in and her Meteoras were no joke, so I would think that might catch some eyes amongst the WWE crew. I thought Catalina looked good, maybe a bit nervy, but the whole bit about stopping by to say hello to Marisela Pena was very cute. Fun match. 3.25*

Winner – La Catalina (top rope splash)

Post-match sees Flammer continue barking at Catalina, and here’s La Heidra and Lady Maravilla charging out to start a beatdown. They kick the crap out of Catalina and Flammer comes in to start smacking Catalina as well. Flammer drops Catalina with a huge right hand and here’s Lola Vice out to try to offer some assistance. The numbers game starts to win again as Las Toxicas start smashing Vice around. Here’s Bayley out to a monster pop to help even things up. Las Toxicas get dumped to the floor and Bayley, Vice and Catalina bark at them as they retreat back up the ramp.

Highlights are shown of last week‘s big reunion moment between Galeno del Mal and El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. after Omos tried to take DW3 out. Galeno will be in action next week! DW3 will defend his Latin American Championship at Noche de los Grandes against El Hijo del Vikingo. We then get a video retrospective on the contract signing between the El Grande Americanos last week, and subsequent attack by the Creed Brothers.

Here’s a look back at the ongoing Los Psycho Circus saga and how Pagano has been the main suspect of the Clown Army being knocked off one by one. Things culminated after Psycho lost to Ivar in a one-on-one match where Pagano did not come out to help while Erik was interfering on Ivar’s behalf. Murder was found hurt backstage and Pagano’s trademark bandana was found with him. Pagano and Psycho will confront each other NEXT.

Psycho Clown is mid-ring and he tells the crowd that what they just saw is why he’s here tonight. Psycho wants Pagano out for a conversation. Here’s Pagano out looking snazzy in a suit jacket and white button down. Psycho wants to know why their brothers have been falling one by one and wants to know what Pagano can tell him. Pagano tells Psycho to be very careful about what he’s accusing him of. Psycho shows Pagano the bandana he found with the body of Murder and re-emphasizes he cannot believe that it’s one of their brothers doing this. Psycho wants Pagano to look him in the eye and tell him what’s going on. Pagano says that after all they’ve been through and all the wars they’ve fought together he cannot believe Psycho would think he would be capable of this accusation. Pagano says it’s not a test, it’s a game from someone who wants to destroy what is left of the Clowns. Pagano thinks that Psycho should look at himself in the mirror and then insists that he was not the one behind the attacks. Pagano insists he’d never turn his back on his family and goes in for a hug, and Psycho thoroughly dismisses him. Psycho exits and Pagano insists that he look back while he’s talking. Pagano says when the truth comes out Psycho will find out that Pagano will be proven to have been on the right side.

Here’s The War Raiders out to attack Psycho, and Pagano charges up the ramp to lend a hand. Psycho and Pagano walk off separately as the credits roll and we’re out.

I thought this was another fun hour in a long series of them. The two matches were good showcases for the competitors in them, and I especially liked all the stuff in the La Catalina debut. The clown confrontation wasn’t exactly a flash point but Pagano got to say out loud that it’s not him making these attacks so we’ll see how this progresses. Tell your friends to start watching this show!

Thanks for reading and commenting. Enjoy your Sunday.
