Morning Daily News Update

By Conor Renshaw on 22 August 2025

Morning, everyone!

It’s Friday again, and we’re back for another Morning Daily News Update!

Let’s take a look at the latest posts the blog has to offer. Just the two new things this morning, as we’ve got Garth Holmberg’s latest ROH TV review, and Scott Herrin has posted the latest TNA Impact review.

Triple H Addresses Whether WWE Will Add More Two-Night PLEs

“The Game”, Triple H was asked on ESPN SportsCenter about whether the WWE has plans on making more pay-per-view two-night events like WrestleMania and SummerSlam. Trips did not confirm if more PPVs will become two-night affairs in the future, but did say that if there is demand for it, then they will do it. I think there is a good chance that in the future we will at least see the big four become two-night shows, so I expect a two-night Royal Rumble and Survivor Series to be on the cards in the coming years.

Tony Khan Responds To WWE Counter-Programming AEW

During the Forbidden Door media call, Tony Khan was asked about how he felt about WWE scheduling upcoming shows to go head-to-head with AEW’s PPVs, and whilst Khan did not directly reply to the question, he said that he is only focused on what AEW is doing and that they are trying their best to be the best wrestling company in the world. Khan also said that he believes that AEW has the best TV shows and pay-per-views, as well as the best fans.

Dustin Rhodes Recovering From Double Knee Replacement Surgery

In more AEW news, former TNT Champion Dustin Rhodes is recovering from a double knee replacement surgery he had yesterday. Rhodes shared images and videos of himself in the hospital on social media post-op and replied to a fan asking if he would retire following his surgery, to which he replied, “Hell nah.” There is currently no timetable for Rhodes’ return to the ring.

AEW Returning to Australia In 2026

In a triple-header for AEW news, it has been confirmed that AEW is heading back down under in 2026. AEW’s 2025 Australian Grand Slam event did well as they drew 13,000 fans to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, although they had originally planned to hold the event in the 52,500-seat Suncorp Stadium. Australian fans can register for a ticket pre-sale on TEG Sport’s website.

That’s all from me for this week, have a good weekend!
