Scott’s Mailbag – 06.25.25

Doing this a little differently than just my usual posting by email. Hopefully it’ll make things a little cleaner. Same snark, though!
Hey Scott
So Chad Gable starts to get properly over, in two roles.
As himself, having stellar matches and picking on luchadors in a lovely heelish way, whilst also pulling a double shift as El Grande Americano, allegedly, no proof has been forthcoming of this.
And now he pops his shoulder and needs surgery.
Well, that sure does suck.
Do they pop someone under the mask as El Grande Americano? (R-Truth would have been great in that role before his more serious turn). Maybe the Creeds can share the role, looking obviously way more beef than your regular luchador.
I’m not sure what El Grande Americano has to do with Chad Gable. Gable can’t even beat luchadors, but Americano does it all the time. I think you’re confused. EGA will be back next week better than ever. Unless ICE gets him.
If you replaced 1986 Hulk Hogan with 1995 Hogan, do you think he would sell the clothesline & piledriver from Paul Orndorff the same way?
To be fair, 1995 Paul Orndorff barely had enough power in his arm to clothesine anybody, let alone Hulk Hogan. Hulk would probably just no-sell it. Come to think of it, I’m kind of shocked they DIDN’T ever replay the Hogan-Orndorff feud in WCW, given that even 20% of the effectiveness of the original run would have been more money than most WCW feuds ever drew in their lifetime.
Scott,
Just a fun question :
What do you think is the biggest gap in quality between two consecutive Wrestlemanias?
IX & X? Something else?
For me it’s 13-14-15. 13 was dire and forgettable, and then they had a mammoth return to form with 14, and then 15 went flying into a totally different trajectory downwards again. It was quite the roller coaster ride.
Scott,
I’ve been on a multiple-falls matches kick lately.
What’s the best 2-out-of-3 falls match of all-time that isn’t Flair Steamboat in 1989?
Omega-Okada, unless that’s “cheating”.
Am i the only one who sees the direct comparison between Hulk Hogan’s life and Rocky Balboa after Rocky 3?
Think about it, after Rocky won the championship he let’s fame and fortune go to his head. He loses the Eye of the Tiger and no longer has the same killer instinct
For Hulk, once he was champion he was never one of the guys and I mean that in the best way. Other top stars even Andre and Randy Savage would socialize with the other wrestlers on the roster.
Macho stands out, in WCW he would work the various shows and with different wrestlers. I remember him matches with the likes of Ultimo Dragon, Chris Adams and Bobby Eaton just to name a few and in his first book Chris Jericho lauds him for treating him as an equal
Hulk let fame and fortune go to his head and would dispose of you once he had no need of you with a few notable exceptions (Earthquake in WCW)
Maybe, Hogan because who he became because of enablers (McMahon) who do you think?
Maybe he was just an asshole who was full of shit all along and finally got exposed for it? That’s my bet.
