What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – December 11, 1993

By LScisco on 4 April 2025

Vince McMahon and Stan Lane commentate the last episode of the tapings in Delhi, New York.

Opening Non-Title Contest: The Quebecers (WWF Tag Team Champions w/Johnny Polo) (10-3) beat Paul Jones & Chaz Ware when Pierre pins Ware after the assisted flying senton bomb at 1:47:

Polo brings a different book to the ring this time, a text entitled Why Be Moral? The Paul Jones in this match is not the one of Jim Crockett Promotions fame. The enhancement talents take the fight to the champions, dropkicking them out of the ring after introductions and posing with the title belts. That just causes them to receive a terrible beating. Ware is devastated during the match and then Jones is beat up afterward with the Boston Crab-flying leg drop combination. After the jobbers have been destroyed, Polo puts the tag belts around their waists as the Quebecers mockingly hold up their opponents’ hands in a callback to how the match started. Little stuff like this is what more squashes need.

Gorilla Monsoon’s Update segment announces that Bobby Heenan will not be coming back to the WWF, although Monsoon concedes he could return later. It is also announced that WWF Champion Yokozuna will defend his title against the Undertaker at The Royal Rumble. Like Lex Luger at SummerSlam, this is going to be the Undertaker’s only title shot but Paul Bearer countered that by making the bout a casket match. Yokozuna, Cornette, and Mr. Fuji argue that the contract he signed did not have a casket match provision but regardless, the champion will shove the Undertaker in a casket on January 22.

Bastion Booger (16-8) pins Tony Webb after the Trip to the Batcave at 1:41:

McMahon says that the Undertaker will need to make a double wide casket to fit Yokozuna. After Booger beats another enhancement talent he eats some Hostess marshmallows.

Get the latest edition of WWF Magazine. Crush is on the cover!

Irwin R. Schyster (12-3) pins Mike Moraldo after the Write Off at 1:41:

The guest ring announcer this week is Liz Woodard, who is an adult woman. That is an upgrade over young children who can barely read. IRS interrupts her announcing, accusing her of being a tax cheat because she is “secluded from civilization” due to living in Delhi.

Tatanka (37-1-3) defeats the Brooklyn Brawler after the Papoose to Go at 2:36:

Tatanka does not get a thunderous response for his return to the ring. McMahon hypes future Tatanka matches against Ludvig Borga and Yokozuna. It seems counterintuitive to give Tatanka matches against the WWF champion after he got squashed to end his undefeated streak. There is also hype of Tatanka as a new man but he has not changed any of his look. The Brawler exploits some of Tatanka’s ring rust but when he takes Tatanka to the buckle that just triggers the warpath comeback.

A taped interview airs between McMahon and Owen Hart. Owen says that friction between he and Bret started years ago as he was a better football player, amateur wrestler, and student. He blames his brother for his Survivor Series elimination, which is a point in his favor. After McMahon goes through Bret’s accomplishments, Owen challenges Bret to a match so he can get out of his brother’s shadow. Owen was never known for his promo ability before this program but he is making the most of his opportunity.

The Smoking Gunns (23-3) defeat Corey Student & Joe Brennan when Billy pins Brennan after the powerbomb-flying elbow drop combination at 2:40:

Lane announces that the finals of the Women’s Championship Tournament will take place on Monday. One would think that the WWF might want to provide the names of the participants but none are given. The Gunns win to a tepid reaction. Bart shows his strength by getting the larger Brennan up for a powerbomb-flying elbow drop finish.

A collection of footage from Jeff Jarrett’s many vignettes air, a sign that his debut is happening soon.

Rick Martel (4-4-1) beats J.S. Storm via submission to the Boston Crab at 2:17:

This Martel run is stuck in the mud. It seemed like he was about to feud with Adam Bomb, which may have turned him babyface, but that issue has been dropped since Survivor Series. Martel has not cared to change his trunk color either, sticking to baby blue tights instead of other warm colors. After the match, Martel sprays Arrogance.

Like last week, there is a music package to recap today’s action.

Tune in next week to see the Steiner Brothers and Crush will be in action! Jeff Jarrett will make his debut as well! Also, Bret Hart will respond to Owen Hart’s comments in a special interview!

The Last Word: Stan Lane adds nothing to these broadcasts. At this point it would be more appropriate to have Vince McMahon call the show himself. Even though Superstars is losing syndication, the WWF is still running some big announcements on it. The Undertaker facing Yokozuna in a casket match is a big selling point for The Royal Rumble and it is a logical extension of how the Survivor Series main event went. Once again, Lex Luger is supposed to be a main event attraction but the Undertaker has a hotter program with Yokozuna and Bret Hart’s feud with Owen is gaining interest while Luger has nothing going on.
