Jeff Hardy-Not A What If

By Scott Keith on 26 February 2025

So I think we can all agree that Jeff Hardy really screwed his career up so many different times by being his own worst enemy. But I feel like it's a bit exaggerated how much farther he really could have gotten. While it's impressive the dude can see wrestle, or even walk, at this point in life, do we really think he could have climbed that much higher on the ladder in WWE even if he didn't have the addiction problems? I actually think he way overachieved, and had he never left WWE he would have fallen back down the card, or at least never maintained that high of a spot for long.

He was a great babyface who could sell an ass kicking with the best of them, and the fans never stopped believing he could always pull out a win. That can carry you a long way in wrestling, and it certainly has with Jeff. But I feel like people talk about him like he could have been a top top guy, and there is just no way. He was never a guy you could send out to late night shows or other promotions appearances, and thats a huge part of being a top guy. He was and is a terrible promo. And at some point the fans would have turned on him like they always do with babyfaces, and Jeff has proven he isn't someone who can really recreate himself like other big acts have had to in order to keep their top spot. The only new character he came up with was Willow, and um, that wasn't very good.

I love Jeff, even last night I popped for him when I knew I shouldn't because he doesn't deserve it. He has blown so much good will with fans, and yet he keeps getting chances. And I am part of the problem with that. But curious what you and the blog think, is Jeff Hardy really a big what if, or did his frequent free falls actually just help keep that myth alive?

I was never personally a huge fan and thought he was overrated as a worker, especially as a singles star. But then the period when he was considered to be at his peak was after I had completely checked out of current wrestling anyway.
