Flair / Funk Stip

“Although this is non-title, Flair has promised to give up the World title if he loses.”
Do you remember the rationale behind this stipulation? Was it to add intrigue to the match, because non-title made it more likely Funk could win? If so, then why the second part of the stip? Or were they trying to indicate that this match was even bigger than the title?
I’ve got no good answers for you on that one. Chalk it up to WCW I guess.
