Rumble Rhythm
By Scott Keith on 4 February 2025
Hey Scott-
So after watching the Rumble the other day (oh my god the Netflix quality was horrible, even after the broadcast finished!) and I was really struck with how same-y the majority of the entrants were. Somebody comes in, gets in a quick shine with a few spots, and then it's endless punch-kick-sell in a corner. And in the woman's rumble in particular: Just endless kip-ups! Are there any spots that you'd like to see come back to break up the same pacing? If everybody comes in and has a good showing, then nobody does!
Aha, someone else from western Canada having Netflix troubles with the show, I knew it wasn't just me.
I don't mind piling up the ring if it's leading to a deadwood clearout spot, especially early in the Rumble. There's something very satisfying about having a monster go on a run and then cost themselves the win shortly afterwards. The problem with the women's match was that it was ALL deadwood piling up and there was no room for anyone to move. The Rumble with Brock Lesnar going on a one-man wrecking mission was a fun and different one for sure. What I enjoy as well is when the ring is empty enough that you can get little stories told, like people making alliances and then things going horribly wrong for them. Or tag teams getting a quick run together and then turning on each other. Just stuff that requires more thought in booking it than “12 people in the ring and they're all punching each other in the corners”.
