What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – September 11, 1993

By LScisco on 1 January 2025

Happy New Year to all of the readers of the Blog of Doom!

Vince McMahon, Jerry Lawler, and Randy Savage are in the booth, taped from White Plains, New York. Lawler drops the crutch he has and limps across the screen, screaming “I can walk!”

Opening Contest: The Headshrinkers (w/Afa) (21-2-1) beat Marty Jannetty & Virgil when Samu pins Virgil after a flying headbutt to the back of the head at 9:17 shown:

Virgil looks awkward coming out to the Rockers theme music. Jannetty and Virgil do not use much of their aerial ability, allowing the Headshrinkers to dominate much of the contest. Jannetty is placed in peril and does a good job selling. A Samu blind charge sends him shoulder-first into the ring post and that lets Virgil receive the hot tag. The babyface duo give Fatu a double dropkick and Virgil hits his side Russian leg sweep. However, referee Mike Chioda spends too much time getting Jannetty out of the ring, giving Samu the opportunity to fly off the top rope with a headbutt and finish. The ending was good but the first five minutes were dull. Rating: **

Irwin R. Schyster (2-1) pins Jeff Libolt after the Write Off at 1:43:

IRS does a Lawler-like routine on the way to the ring, saying that the fans do not know what a 1044 form is, interrogating a young fan over whether he knows his Social Security number, and telling another kid that he needs to get a job and pay taxes. It is not on Lawler’s level but the kid jabs were funny. IRS dismantles Libolt with amateur wrestling as McMahon claims IRS’ scientific skills rival Bret Hart’s. McMahon also announces that Money Incorporated no longer exists as Ted DiBiase and IRS have gone their separate ways. As IRS walks to the locker room, McMahon uses some smark-like terminology, saying that someone can be a heel but when “they are an Irwin” that means they are the worst.

Tatanka (30-0-2) pins Damien Demento (9-8) after a flying chop at 4:56:

This is a rematch of an encounter these two had on Monday Night RAW on February 1. Savage announces that Crush is on the mend and sends a “Shaka brah!” to his friend. There is a lot of talk about Tatanka’s unbeaten streak, foreshadowing that it will soon come under threat. That threat does not come from Demento, though. Demento wastes time after a DDT talking to himself. One thinks Demento is prepping for a big move but all he does is a simple take to the buckle, sparking Tatanka’s warpath comeback and victory. Just another dull Demento bout in a list of many as he adds nothing exciting to the feature matches he is a part of. Rating: *½

Gorilla Monsoon’s Update shows footage from Lex Luger’s locker room after SummerSlam. Ludvig Borga walks in and promises to crush him.

The 1-2-3 Kid (11-3-1) defeats Bastion Booger (9-5) via count out at 3:55:

Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan call this match, which was filmed as part of the Wrestling Challenge event in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was plugged into this show to cover for a Mr. Hughes squash match. Despite his SummerSlam loss to IRS, the Kid is penciled in at house shows to wrestle Shawn Michaels for the Intercontinental Championship. After taking a lot of punishment, the Kid schoolboys Booger after a blind charge for a near-fall and knocks him out of the ring with a spin kick. That is followed up by a somersault plancha and a pescado. The two battle outside during a long ten count by referee Tim White as Booger avalanches the Kid against the ring post but fails on a second attempt. The Kid grabs a pitcher of water off the timekeeper’s table, throws it on Booger (although more than half of it splashes the front row), and rolls in for a cheap win. These two had a bit of chemistry but Booger’s offense is so plodding and bad that he could not keep up with the Kid and it dragged the match down. Rating: *

A music video for Randy Savage’s “Speaking from the Heart” song on WrestleMania: The Album is shown as the WWF milks that record for as much content as possible. The sole highlight is Savage doing a big smile when footage airs of him giving Hulk Hogan the flying elbow drop at WrestleMania V.

Buy the latest copy of WWF Magazine, which has WWF Tag Team Champions the Steiner Brothers on the cover! There is a story about New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner!

Adam Bomb (w/Johnny Polo) (19-0) defeats Ron Neal after the Atom Smasher at 2:01:

Polo wears a nighttime robe and big duck slippers to the ring while holding a glass of wine, showing that he is not taking the match seriously. Bomb devastates Neal for his twentieth victory.

On a new edition of the King’s Court, Lawler argues that his knee is getting better and continues ranting about Doink the Clown failing him at SummerSlam. He warns Bret not to cross his path because he beat him on crutches and can do worse when he is healthy.

Tune in next week to see Bret Hart face Blake Beverly! Also, the 1-2-3 Kid, Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels, Mr. Perfect, Ludvig Borga will be in action!

The Last Word: Getting three feature matches was nothing to be disappointed about even if their quality was nothing more than average. Along with Mr. Perfect, Marty Jannetty has had a quick fall from grace since returning and his Intercontinental title reign might as well be forgotten. The show also continued to heat up a feud between Lex Luger and Ludvig Borga but it is hard to see that getting over since Borga is new and is not charismatic enough to warrant the high position he has been given.

Up Next: Wrestling Challenge for September 12!
