Has MJF Peaked?
By Scott Keith on 14 December 2024
I know this is a crazy thing to say considering how young he is, but have we already seen the best of MJF? Obviously Tony is somewhat to be blamed for this, as MJFs title reign pretty much sucked. While he is still a top talent in the ring when he cares about showing up, it just doesn't feel the same. All that noise about free agency just got dropped when I am sure Tony made him an offer he couldn't refuse, but how did they not make a bigger deal of it when MJF re-signed. The devil stuff will do down as one of the worst wrestling angles all time, and the fact that garbage is still going on shows how tone deaf they all are right now.
Now that MJF is actually rich in real life, it like he is even lazier than he was before. He is promos feel mailed in, literally, and him forcing Tony to turn him heel just proves he doesn't really want to work for it, cause obviously it's easier for to say some edgy lines as a heel than it't is to get over and stay over as face. I always thought he was an overrated promo, as he just mostly relied on talking about WWE and low hanging fruit. But ever since he returned nothing about him is must see. MJF a few years felt like the only massive breakout star AEW really had, and now he is just a guy who is there collecting a very big check and really doesn't care. Also, dude has to lay off the spray tan, steroids, and cheap looking hairplugs. I honestly think WWE dodge a bullet not signing him.
Well he's not exactly Penta yet in terms of half-assing it but man has this current run made it seem like he's checked out. When most of his promos have literally been called in from another state while he's doing something he loves more, you know that he's not putting much effort in. Honestly Tony should let him go be an actor and make a name for himself and then use him as a special attraction like the Rock, instead of trying to make him a weekly character in a feud that's only killing off his drawing appeal.
