Wrestling without Nitro?
By Scott Keith on 7 December 2024
Where do you think wrestling would be if Monday Nitro never was created?
Before Nitro both WWF and WCW were stagnant wrestling companies and when the dust settled WWE(F) was an entertainment juggernaut. Now there is more live wrestling programming per week than ever before.
You sound like the concluding paragraph on a WWE A&E special.
Without Nitro I think WCW would have died a lot sooner because TBS was getting sick of the losses and were trying to get rid of the WCW albatross while Ted Turner blocked them all the time. Without Nitro to prop up the company and make that money, I think they pull the plug as soon as Turner is out of the picture. I don't think WWE would have died or anything, but they probably would have stagnated for a lot longer and there's a real question as to whether Steve Austin would have been able to develop. Also I don't think Bret Hart leaves because Bischoff has said that he signed Bret to be top guy on Thunder (if we believe Bischoff) and without that show, they don't really need another huge contract.
