Can Kenny Omega save AEW?

Back when the Elite attacked Tony Khan & ran roughshod over the territory, they had the still-injured Kenny Omega do a promo teasing he’d be the ones to stop them.
Now, months later, the Elite is gone from TV, and Moxley’s heel group is NWO’ing the territory.
Will the Elite storyline be forgotten? Will Omega come back as the lonewolf & take on everyone? Or is it all a lost cause & there is no long-term storyline?
I think Kenny is happier to stay in Japan for a while from what I can tell. For me personally, I want Ospreay as the guy to be the conquering hero.
