What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – November 21, 1992

By LScisco on 6 March 2024

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan are commentators for this episode, which starts new tapings in Terre Haute, Indiana, site of the recent Saturday Night’s Main Event. Heenan replaces Mr. Perfect as a commentator because of Perfect’s return to in-ring competition. This episode was supposed to feature the Ultimate Warrior beating Papa Shango but that match was scrapped because of the Warrior’s firing.

Opening Contest for the WWF Championship: Bret Hart (Champion) (35-2-1) defeats Virgil (23-6) via submission to the Sharpshooter at 4:13:

Neither man wrestles as a heel and exchanges basic offense. Virgil barely gets Bret over with a monkey flip and tries a reverse flying body press off the second rope, misses, and Bret applies the Sharpshooter to retain the title. For his lone shot at the WWF title, one would think Virgil would go for broke but he never did any of his trademark spots. Rating: *

After the match, Bret helps Virgil to his feet and they hug it out.

Gene Okerlund provides a special bulletin that Mr. Perfect is replacing the Ultimate Warrior as Randy Savage’s tag team partner at Survivor Series. In a taped interview with Okerlund, Savage and Perfect have some tension over not liking each other. Perfect says he brought Razor Ramon into the WWF and is going to eliminate him. In a nice touch, Savage has adjusted his tights to a black and white look to mirror Perfect’s ring jacket.

Yokozuna (w/Mr. Fuji) (3-0) pins Todd Becker after a sit-down splash off the second rope at 2:26:

Becker, a Minneapolis, Minnesota talent, did enhancement work for the WWF in 1989, working more than ten matches. He also did enhancement work for the AWA in 1989 and 1990.

McMahon says that Yokozuna has an open contract for Survivor Series and that he will face anyone. In the split screen, Mr. Fuji hypes Yokozuna as over 500 pounds of meanness. As Yokozuna squashes Becker like a bug, Heenan rants about Perfect teaming with Savage.

Lord Alfred Hayes’ Update segment talks about the recent Intercontinental title change. Footage is also shown of WWF Champion Bret Hart beating Papa Shango on Saturday Night’s Main Event and Shawn Michaels confronting him at the end of the show.

The Natural Disasters (27-2) defeat Steve Walker & Mike Kramer when Typhoon pinned Kramer after the Tidal Wave at 2:07:

WWF Tag Team Champions Money Incorporated and the Beverly Brothers argue that their wealth makes them guaranteed winners at Survivor Series. Kramer takes the entire beating for his team, getting avalanched several times and vanquished with each big man’s finisher.

Okerlund does the Survivor Series Report. Ric Flair & Razor Ramon are not happy with Mr. Perfect. Flair is mad that Perfect thinks he deserves any credit for Flair’s success and Ramon puts over Flair as the WWF’s best wrestler and himself as the WWF’s best fighter. Nailz tells the Big Bossman that Wednesday night will be his opportunity for revenge. The Bossman rebuts that hard time awaits Nailz. Harvey Wippleman and Kim Chee argue that Kamala is not afraid of the coffin match with the Undertaker. A new match added to the card is High Energy facing the Headshrinkers.

Bam Bam Bigelow promises that he will engulf the WWF in flames starting next week.

Lance Cassidy (1-0-1) pins Barry Horowitz after a flying clothesline at 2:22:

The clown makes his weekly appearance, walking out after the match begins. In the split screen, Cassidy tells fans that he prides himself in his wrestling ability and he dares WWF wrestlers to “Take a chance with Lance.” After Horowitz misses a blind charge, Cassidy hiptosses him and finishes with a flying clothesline.

Heenan promises fans that they will see the execution of Mr. Perfect at Survivor Series.

The Undertaker and Paul Bearer are shown in their workshop. The coffin is complete and it is marked with Kamala’s tribal symbols. The Undertaker emerges out of the coffin and promises to beat Kamala into a pulp, throw his rotting carcass into the coffin, and make Kamala suffocate on his own breath.

Tune in next week to see the debut of Bam Bam Bigelow!

The Last Word: There was not as much in-ring action as the WWF does its best to hype the new tag team main event with the limited television time that it has before Survivor Series. Although Kamala is not a threat to beat the Undertaker, the workshop segments for the feud have been tremendous and have enhanced the Undertaker’s character and mystique.
