What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – November 14, 1992

By LScisco on 26 February 2024

Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect are in the booth for the last episode of the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada taping.

Opening Contest for the Intercontinental Championship: The British Bulldog (Champion) (29-0) defeats Repo Man (24-8-1) after the running powerslam at 4:58:

The Bulldog won the feud between these two after WrestleMania VIII and this is his first televised defense of the Intercontinental title. In kayfabe, it is ambitious for the Bulldog to wrestle on today’s show because Perfect announces that the Bulldog will defend later in the evening against Shawn Michaels on Saturday Night’s Main Event. Repo Man survives a gorilla press slam and he scores a near-fall from a stun gun. The Bulldog reverses a whip into the corner and schoolboys Repo Man for two, only to have Repo Man clothesline him shortly after for a two count. The Bulldog blocks a Repo Man dive off the second rope with a clothesline for two and his vertical suplex gets two. After that, the Bulldog drives Repo Man into the mat with the running powerslam, winning a match that was much better than their prior encounter in August. Rating: **

Perfect predicts that Michaels will become the new Intercontinental champion on Saturday Night’s Main Event. McMahon informs fans that there will also be two other title matches as WWF Tag Team Champions Money Incorporated defend against the Ultimate Maniacs and WWF Champion Bret Hart defends against Papa Shango.

A video package hypes Bob Backlund with footage from prior vignettes. There is also new footage of Backlund working out. Backlund concludes the vignette by saying that he loves his family and fans and he is soon going to find out if he still has it in the WWF.

The Headshrinkers (w/Afa) (4-0) beat Jim Powers & Bobby St. Laurent when Fatu pins St. Laurent after a splash off the top rope at 2:15:

At this point putting the Headshrinkers in the Survivor Series eight-man tag team elimination match would be an upgrade. It would also fit their new feud with the Natural Disasters. Before the match starts, the unknown clown is shown walking out near the video board. All Powers does is twist Fatu’s arm before tagging out and Laurent takes a beating. Before the finish, the clown shows concern for St. Laurent when Fatu flies off the top rope.

A new Bam Bam Bigelow vignette sees him promise that his flames will soon concern everyone in the WWF. He screams “Bam Bam” a lot at the end of the segment.

Marty Jannetty (4-0-1) pins Mike Sharpe after a flying fist drop at 2:04:

Jannetty is wearing so many neon colors that he would look aesthetically pleasing in a tag team with Crush. In the split screen, Jannetty tells Shawn Michaels that he is not a quitter or rich kid so he has to work hard for what he wants and what he wants is to kick Michaels’ ass. Jannetty is showing good fire in these insert spots. Jannetty knocks Sharpe out of the ring a few times before getting him on the mat for the flying fist drop. It is noticeable that Jannetty is not using the Rocker Dropper, a possible consequence of paralyzing enhancement talent Chuck Austin with the move in 1990.

Lord Alfred Hayes’ Update segment shows footage of Bret Hart’s WWF title defense against the Berzerker on Prime Time Wrestling. This leads into hype of Bret’s fight against Papa Shango later tonight. Hayes adds that Bret has a scheduled title defense next week against Virgil. Bret says that Virgil has a title shot because Bret is picking up Ric Flair’s prior commitments. Virgil argues that he has a lot of respect for Bret but he wants the WWF title badly.

Nailz (16-0) beats Ken Johnson via submission to the chokehold sleeper at 2:05:

Johnson folds up well after a Nailz clothesline but it is ignored by McMahon, who hypes the Survivor Series Hotline. This year fans can leave their phone numbers and a WWF superstar may call them back and talk to them. The crowd watches in silence as Nailz chokes out Johnson to remain undefeated. The clown is in the stands now facing the hard camera and appears to be challenging Nailz.

Joe Blevins interviews the Natural Disasters and the Nasty Boys. The Disasters promise destruction for WWF Tag Team Champions Money Incorporated and the Beverly Brothers at Survivor Series. Jerry Sags notes that Jimmy Hart is public enemy number one for both teams. Brian Knobbs adds that Hart will be the dessert once the Disasters and Nasties make turkey out of their opponent.

Gene Okerlund does the Survivor Series Report. Ric Flair, Razor Ramon, and Mr. Perfect put themselves over as survivors and generals that the Ultimate Maniacs cannot measure up to. The Ultimate Maniacs rebut with a crazed promo about how their opponents do not understand who they are.

Kamala (w/Harvey Wippleman & Kim Chee) (18-4) pins Steve Gillespie with the splash to the back at 1:35:

Kamala does his chops and then hits the splash to the back as McMahon continues to talk about the Survivor Series Hotline.

New footage of the Undertaker’s workshop shows the Undertaker hammering a piece of iron, which is part of the process of putting Kamala’s casket together.

Tune in next week to see WWF Champion Bret Hart defend against Virgil!

The Last Word: Most of this show was wrapped up in hype for Saturday Night’s Main Event and Survivor Series but the Intercontinental title match was a good kickoff for the program. Deciding to have Bret Hart face all comers for the WWF title was a good booking to give Bret more credibility as champion. Virgil has not done much this year to be perceived as a threat but next week’s match has the babyface vs. babyface novelty going for it if nothing else.

Up Next: Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXI!
