What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – November 7, 1992
By LScisco on 19 February 2024
Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect call the action, taped from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Perfect says that he is not happy with the recent results of the U.S. presidential election but he is happy that Money Incorporated are the new Tag Team champions.
Opening Contest: Max Moon (6-0) beats Louie Spicolli after a reverse flying body press off the top rope at 1:54:
Moon is getting a small push as McMahon points out that he is getting a personality profile in WWF Magazine. He confuses Spicolli with some flips before putting him away with a spinning heel kick in the corner, the Star Trek Splash, and a reverse flying body press off the top rope.
The Headshrinkers (w/Afa) (2-0) beat Joey Maggs & Brian Costello when Fatu pins Costello after a splash off the top rope at 2:04:
For many fans this was their first time seeing the Headshrinkers as their previous matches took place on Prime Time Wrestling in August and September. In the split screen, the Headshrinkers and Afa talk about how they feel no pain but will inflict it. Fatu does not sell his face being slammed into the mat to feed the wrestling stereotype that Samoans have hard heads and the Headshrinkers get a reaction for a double forward Russian leg sweep to Costello. Fatu’s splash off the top rope looks great as he achieves a devastating impact upon landing. After the match, the Headshrinkers bite Costello until throwing him to the floor. The squash conveys that the Headshrinkers are a brutal team that is not to be messed with.
Virgil (22-6) pins Jim Peterson after the side Russian leg sweep at 1:57:
With so many new acts coming into the company, Virgil has fallen off the radar and this is his first televised bout in a month. In the split screen, Virgil talks about how he once admired Bob Backlund and is happy that Backlund is making a comeback. That is hard to believe and Perfect says as much. The clown who appeared on last week’s show makes another appearance in the crowd as Virgil plows through his bigger opponent with fists, a flying clothesline, and the side Russian leg sweep.
Damien Demento defeats Steve May after a knee drop at 2:06:
Demento was trained by Johnny Rodz and began working on the Northeast independent circuit in 1987. He later took on the name Mondo Kleen and appeared as Mondo Phil for a couple of matches in WCW in September 1992. The Bushwhackers helped him get signed by the WWF a month later.
Demento’s character has an interesting hometown, billed as from “The Outer Reaches of Your Mind.” The gimmick is of a mentally unstable man but that would be hard for fans to figure out because Demento did not receive any vignettes. He looks like someone from the Mongolian steppes and does an insert about how he is a creation of fans’ minds and torments. That sounds goofier than Papa Shango and McMahon and Perfect immediately shoot down that Demento is something out of their mind. Demento has some generic offense of a slam and a clothesline and then pulls down his kneepad to do a knee drop for the win. Compared to the Headshrinkers, this was an underwhelming performance.
Saturday Night’s Main Event returns next Saturday night!
Joe Blevins interviews the Big Bossman in the ring, which has had a nightstick rigged up in a corner to show the setup for the Bossman’s Survivor Series match against Nailz. It is not much of an interview as the Bossman takes the microphone from Blevins and climbs up to the nightstick, promising to use it and that he will not offer any pardon to his opponent.
Gene Okerlund does the Survivor Series Report. The Natural Disasters say that the pay-per-view will be interesting because they are going to take the fight to Money Incorporated and the Beverly Brothers with the Nasty Boys at their sides. It is announced that Sensational Sherri will not be in Shawn Michaels’ corner for his WWF title match against Bret Hart. The Undertaker and Paul Bearer are shown working on a coffin. Bearer says that the Undertaker has been working hard and has not made the coffin airtight so that vermin and maggots can get to Kamala’s flesh. Harvey Wippleman and Kim Chee rebut that Kamala is not afraid of the Undertaker, a statement that no one believes at this point. The Ultimate Maniacs talk about how they are out of control.
WWF Tag Team Championship Match: Money Incorporated (Champions w/Jimmy Hart) (27-2) beat High Energy (17-1-1) when Ted DiBiase pins Owen Hart after a swinging neckbreaker at 4:18:
High Energy’s sole loss was to Money Incorporated several months ago via count out so they seek a degree of revenge today. The match also provides an opportunity for all three members of the Hart family to hold titles simultaneously. Owen outwrestles each of the champions but Ware gets kneed in the back of the ropes, something he needs to guard better against, and ends up in peril for a few seconds. He catches IRS with a clothesline to give Owen a hot tag. Owen cleans house but puts his head down too early on an Irish whip and DiBiase finishes him with a swinging neckbreaker. That finish was surprising because Owen has always been the most protected member of the team. Money Incorporated get their second strong win in as many weeks, making their second title run an improvement from earlier in the year. Rating: *½
Repo Man tells the British Bulldog that the Intercontinental title belongs to him. The Bulldog rebuts that he is going to repossess Repo Man.
Tune in next week to see Intercontinental Champion the British Bulldog defend against Repo Man! Also, Kamala, Marty Jannetty, the Headshrinkers, and Nailz in action! And there will be a special interview with the Natural Disasters!
The Last Word: The show moved along nicely and exposed fans to new acts on the roster. High Energy’s clean loss to Money Incorporated shows that the WWF has soured on the team, possibly because Owen Hart’s injury has made the team deviate from its high-flying roots.
