Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 24th April 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 14 February 2024

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

Goldust and Blue Meanie got a win over The Hardy Boyz when Too Much caused a ruckus

Tiger Ali Singh took a Choke Slam courtesy of The Big Show thanks to D-Lo Brown, leading to Tiger and Brown setting up a match for this week

The Hardy Boyz got their revenge on Too Much by costing them a match against Edge and Christian

The Acolytes got a win over The Godfather and Val Venis when Bradshaw gave Venis a Lariat. Venis was clearly unhappy following the bout, so that issue might not be over

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 12th of April 1999 from Detroit, Michigan
Episode aired on the 24th of April 1999

Three Shows were held;

Shotgun Tapings

Super Astros Tapings
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=16281

Live Raw
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=2816

Someone I need this week is booked on Raw, which means I’m going to have to double book I’m afraid. I try and avoid that as much as possible, but this week I feel like I have to include this person in the show, hence they’ll be working Shotgun as well

Show Intro

We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

1 Minute for Segment
1 Minute Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 1
Tiger Ali Singh Vs D-Lo Brown

I didn’t want to overdo the build for this match, so Brown is going to have to work twice tonight, doing both Shotgun and Raw. Brown will get the better of things in the match for the most part, with Tiger looking to find underhanded ways to get himself into the match. Eventually Brown will go for a cross body block, but Tiger will roll through and will then grab a handful of Brown’s tights in order to get an improbable three count. Tiger has got the win on this episode of Shotgun, but he didn’t do it fairly!

8 Minutes Total for Segment. 6 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances
9 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

2 Minutes for Segment
11 Minutes total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 3
Droz and Prince Albert Vs Don DeSilva and Scotty Zappa

This is a squash win for Droz and Albert so that we can pad their record and keep them in the viewer’s conscious. I was planning on doing a proper feud between Droz/Albert and The Public Enemy, but then TPE got fired so Droz and Albert have found themselves without dance partners. As a result, I’ll get them on the show here and let them try and get themselves over as a dangerous unit by clobbering some enhancement guys.

4 Minutes Total for Segment. 3 Minutes for the match. 1 Minute for Entrance
15 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 4
Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

2 Minutes Total for Segment
17 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 5
In-Ring promo segment with Val Venis

Venis joins us angry about dropping a fall to Bradshaw last week, leading to him challenging Bradshaw to come down to the ring so that they can start the fight up once again. Bradshaw complies with the request and the two have a spirited brawl both inside the ring and around ringside. Venis looks to be getting the better of things and has Bradshaw down on the mat, only for Bradshaw’s stablemates of Faarooq, Mideon and Viscera to run down for the rescue. In the face of One Vs Four odds, Venis is soon laid out, with The Acolytes adding a double team Powerbomb for good measure until The Godfather is able to chase The Ministry away with a chair. Venis looks like he has the measure of his foes in a fair fight, but will the fight ever truly be fair?

5 Minutes for Segment
22 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 6
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

2 Minutes for Segment
24 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 7
Too Much (Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor) and The Blue Meanie Vs The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff) and The Road Dogg

This is a continuation of the feud between Too Much and The Hardyz, with Meanie and Dogg getting added into things due to them clashing a few times when Meanie was helping out Goldust in matches with Road Dogg over the Intercontinental Title. Too Much and Meanie will work over Jeff Hardy for a bit, giving the younger Hardy a chance to sell and get the crowd invested in the bout. Eventually the hot tag will be made to Dogg and he’ll run wild on the Heels, leading us into the finishing stretch. The Hardyz will dive out of the ring onto Too Much to nullify them, leading to Dogg hitting his Pump Handle Slam onto Meanie for the three count. The Hardyz and Dogg will celebrate, but Too Much and The Hardyz still have an issue to settle at a later date.

13 Minutes Total for Segment. 8 Minutes for the match. 5 Minutes for the entrances (so that Dogg can get his crowd pleasing spiel in)
37 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 8
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

1 Minute for Segment
38 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 10
8-Ball w/ Skull Vs Al Snow w/ Head

8-Ball and Skull are two guys I don’t really have much interest in pushing, but they were still knocking around the undercard at the time, so I’ll give them a Shotgun booking here, with 8-Ball taking on Snow. 8-Ball and Skull, being identical twins and all, will attempt a switcheroo at one stage, but the referee will notice it and usher Skull out of the ring. Whilst that is going on, Snow will clock 8-Ball with Head and the referee will turn around just in time to see the pin being made. Al Snow has actually managed to outsmart somebody! Anything can truly happen in the WWF!!

7 Minutes Total for Segment. 5 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances
45 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

End of Show

There probably isn’t going to be a lot of great in-ring action this week, but we’ve got reasonably over acts in most of the matches (Brown, Road Dogg, Snow) and we’ve advanced the Too Much/Hardyz, Tiger/Brown and Ministry/Venis storylines for another week, so overall this episode of Shotgun hit the beats it needed to even if there wasn’t much in the way of great wrestling. I think the Six Man Tag has potential to be fun at least, and Tiger Vs Brown will hopefully have some reasonable crowd reactions as well thanks to Tiger’s ability to get people to hate him and Brown’s general star status around this timeframe.

Next week I’ve got what will hopefully be a great wrestling match to present featuring a talented grappler from Japan and an equally good one from Canada, so tune in for the international dream match!!

Anyway, that’s us done for another week. We’ll pick things up again next week and see where the stories take us.

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
