Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 17th April 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 7 February 2024

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

Steve Williams defeated by Mideon by DQ when Viscera ran in, leading to a two on one assault by The Ministry onto Dr. Death

Tiger Ali Singh’s promo time got interrupted by D-Lo Brown, leading to Brown getting a win over Devon Storm whilst Tiger seethed

Droz, Prince Albert and Too Much defeated The Hardy Boyz and The Public Enemy when Christopher attacked Jeff Hardy behind the referee’s back and draped Scott Taylor on top for three

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 11th of April 1999 from East Lansing, Michigan
Episode aired on the 17th of April 1999

Three Shows were held;

Super Astros Taping
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=16280

Shotgun Taping
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=36173

Live HeAT
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=8452

As a general rule, these type of tapings are sometimes easier for me as HeAT is only an hour long, meaning that I might have access to a greater number of wrestlers because there will be less double booking (ideally)

Show Intro

We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

Segment 1
Goldust and The Blue Meanie Vs The Hardy Boyz

And one of the benefits of there being no Raw on this taping block is that I get to book Goldust on Shotgun this week, as he was all over Raw at the time due to being in the WWF Intercontinental mix. We’ll give them 8 minutes to work the tag formula and have a proper match here, with The Hardyz working as babyfaces. After the usual shine, cut off and heat segment, Matt will get the hot tag and run wild on Goldust and Meanie. However, just as things are looking up for The Hardyz; Too Much will show up and wreck things for them. Too Much will try and get in the ring, thus distracting the referee and allowing Goldust to kick Matt right in his Matt Facts before delivering the Curtain Call for the three count. We get to give Goldust and Meanie a win, continue the feud between Too Much and The Hardyz, and we also have The Hardyz hang with Goldust in a competitive match, which should hopefully help their perception with the fans.

10 Minutes Total for Segment. 8 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances
11 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

13 Minutes total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 3
Tiger Ali Singh Vs The Big Show

Not only do we get Goldust on Shotgun this week, but we also get The Big Show in as well. This match will go pretty much exactly as you think it will, with Tiger getting clobbered by the much bigger and scarier Giant. Eventually Tiger will get knocked to the floor and will decide that he doesn’t want to go on with the match, getting himself deliberately counted out to avoid a further beating. Tiger treats this as some kind of warped victory, but he doesn’t have long to enjoy it, as D-Lo Brown runs down and flings Tiger back into the ring, where he promptly eats a Choke Slam from The Big Show. Brown is actually wrestling The Rock on HeAT this week, so this will be how we keep the feud going. I felt like making Tiger eat another pin so soon after he was humiliated by Blackman in their feud ending bout was a bit rum, so we do the count out instead. Big Show should still get a nice pop for crushing Tiger with the Choke Slam I think.

6 Minutes Total for Segment. 2 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances, 2 Minutes for the post-match
19 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 4
Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

2 Minutes Total for Segment
21 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 5
Tiger Ali Singh backstage promo segment

Tiger is of course furious about what just happened, so he demands a match with D-Lo Brown in order to teach him some respect.

1 Minute for Segment
22 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 6
Too Much (Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor) Vs Edge and Christian

Once again we’ll give these two teams some time to tell a story in there, with E&C playing the babyfaces whilst Too Much work as Heels. Obviously The Hardyz aren’t to let what happened to them earlier stand, and they will try to come down to the ring to exact some revenge. A gaggle of Agents and Refs will keep The Hardyz at bay, but the distraction will be sufficient for Taylor to forget what he’s doing and turn around into a vicious Spear from Edge that gives The Brood the victory on this episode of Shotgun. Too Much and The Hardyz have both cost each other matches this week!

10 Minutes Total for Segment. 8 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances
32 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 7
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

2 Minutes for Segment
34 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 8
D-Lo Brown backstage promo segment

Brown says that he will be thrilled to accept Tiger Ali Singh’s challenge, stating that he originally didn’t want an issues with Tiger, but Tiger has disrespected him and now he needs to recognise that such actions will not go without a response.

1 Minute Total For Segment
35 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 9
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

1 Minute for Segment
36 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 10
The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw) Vs Supply and Demand (The Godfather and Val Venis)

And we close things out with another tag team match, as The Acolytes take on Supply and Demand. This should hopefully be a hard hitting encounter if nothing else. We’ll have The Acolytes get the win due to The Ministry of Darkness getting a push at the time. Things can breakdown in the closing stages and Bradshaw can end this episode of Shotgun with a heckacious Lariat for the three count. Venis will not be happy about eating the pin and will stare a hole in The Acolytes to close the show whilst Godfather attempts to console him.

9 Minutes Total for Segment. 5 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances. 2 Minutes for some pre-match promo time from Supply and Demand
45 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

End of Show

We’ve kept the Too Much/Hardyz and Tiger/Brown issues bubbling along this week, whilst also providing a whopping (for the Attitude Era) 23 Minutes of in-ring action on a 45 Minute show, which is ever-so-slightly more than half the show’s runtime. The way the show is looking right now is kind of what my vision was for it, whereby we have a couple of storylines going in order to give it an episodic feel, but we also have a greater focus on in-ring action than what you might get from the Main Roster shows at the time.

Whether the two main storylines are going to grip people I can’t say. Tiger is kind of the Shotgun MVP in some ways. Well, he is whenever he doesn’t have to actually wrestle I suppose. He’s usually going to have stuff going on, just because he’s so rarely wrestling on Raw or HeAT so I can at least rely on him to be there every week. D-Lo is wrestling on Raw next week for instance, so I’m going to have to go against my double booking aversion because I can’t keep delaying matches in feuds. It caused the Tiger/Blackman feud to go well past it’s sell-by-date so I’m going to do my best to avoid that happening with this D-Lo feud.

Too Much and Hardyz is still going on and I think we’ll be looking to end it in the next 2-4 weeks, mainly because by the early Summer The Hardyz are going to be working the Main Roster and even going for the tag belts, so I need this feud polished off by then. Venis getting annoyed at The Ministry opens the door for multiple matches due to the faction having Faarooq, Bradshaw, Mideon and Viscera all part of it, so I can swap people in and out sometimes in order to keep things cooking along. I’m not too sure of the match quality there in that feud, but Venis is solid enough that he should be able to get some watchable matches out of all four of those guys provided the bouts are structured well.

Anyway, that’s us done for another week. We’ll pick things up again next week and see where the stories take us.

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
