Royal Rumble ’97: Accidentally the most loaded group of legends to close a match?

By Scott Keith on 26 January 2024

Rewatching Rumble '97 and, my god, is it a disaster of production and confused crowd reactions. And then it hit me, it comes down to:

-Steve Austin
-Bret Hart
-The Rock
-Mick Foley
-Vader
-The Undertaker
-Terry Funk
-Kane

Was it just such a crappy Rumble no one cares to point out such a wild cross-section of bona fide legends at different points in their careers? Everything gets overshadowed by Shawn's antics shortly after? It was just a blip in the Matrix to put that group together for a fleeting moment?

Yeah it’s kind of mind boggling the amount of talent they were working with and still how long it took to overtake WCW with it. Goes to show that a loaded roster isn’t automatically the solution to your problem.
