Mailbag – “Sweet Daddy” Sampson

Scott,

You mentioned Sweet Daddy in a recent rant. I remember seeing him in the 80s in Cloverdale as well. Pretty much the only thing I remember is that we had front row seats, Sweet Daddy was in a cage match in the main event, and when he was thrown into the cage on our side, he spattered blood all over my friend's Mom's matching hot pink tracksuit. Good times. Do you have any other particular Tomko/UWA memories?

Yeah, when Ultimate Warrior was doing the pushup contest on Superstars with the guy from the front row and I was immediately like “HEY THAT'S FORMER UWA WORLD CHAMPION JOHN TENTA!” and so I knew something was up.

Also Mauro debuting for Tomko as a “troubleshooting official” at 16 years old and immediately being a great color commentator, and then turning heel and being a great heel as well.

Also Tomko repackaging his moderately talented kid as “The Frog” and giving him the Frogger song as a theme.

Also Tomko getting a guy who looked kinda like King Kong Bundy but smaller and calling him King Kong Bundy Jr.

I should probably track down that show and review it come to think of it.
