Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 27th March 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 17 January 2024

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

Tiger Ali Singh scored an improbable victory over his rival Steve Blackman via illegal use of the ropes

Triple H and X-Pac picked up a win over Skull and 8-Ball, and then challenged the Mean Street Posse to a fight, only for the cowardly rich cretins to flee rather than take a deserved hiding

Droz picked up a victory over game enhancement talent Christopher Daniels. Following the bout, The Road Warriors challenged Droz and his partner Prince Albert to a big Street Fight this week so that the two tandems could finally settle their feud that has raged on Shotgun for months

Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett defeated Matt and Jeff Hardy in order to retain their WWF Tag Team Titles in a rare Title match here on Shotgun

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 22nd of March 1999 from Albany, New York
Episode aired on the 27th of March 1999

Two Shows were held;

Shotgun Tapings
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=36170

Live Raw is War
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=2068

So we’ve got a rare case of there just being two shows at this taping, meaning that I’ve been able to use a decent selection of talent for the show without any double booking when it comes to the matches, which is always a pleasant outcome!

Show Intro

We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

Segment 1
Skull, 8-Ball, Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor Vs D-Lo Brown, The Godfather, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy

Too Much (Christopher and Taylor) have been having a bit of an issue with The Hardyz in recent weeks, so ostensibly this match will keep that issue alive. The Heel team can spend a bit of time beating up Jeff until it’s time for hot tag D-Lo, leading to the babyface foursome picking up the win when Brown comes off the top with his trademark Lo-Down Frogsplash onto one of Skull or 8-Ball. Too Much I guess are technically the lower ranked team in their quart, but there’s no real need for them to drop the fall here, as Skull and 8-Ball will be out the door soon anyway and I’ve no real intention of doing anything with them before they do, so we can have Too Much and The Hardyz crash and burn somehow down the closing stretch so that there’s still a reason for some beef without anyone having to eat a pin.

10 Minutes Total for Segment. 6 Minutes for the match. 4 Minutes for Entrances (Godfather needs some promo time for his usual spiel)

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 3
Tiger Ali Singh in-ring promo

Tiger got a cheap win over Steve Blackman last week, so this week he is out to gloat about his victory and draw some cheap heat from the crowd. The gist of Tiger’s promo is that his win proved that he is superiour to Blackman and he now has no further need to wrestle the Lethal Weapon in anymore matches. However, the unmistakable theme of Shawn Michaels plays over the sound system, leading to Ol’ HBK showing up on the Titan-tron. As the WWF Commissioner, Shawn will say that he’s been hearing from WWF fans all week about how disappointed they were with the events of the previous show, so he’s put something special together for next week on Shotgun. Tiger and Blackman will face one another once again, and this time there will be poles in the corner of the ring with martial arts weapons hanging from them that either wrestler can use, in the “interest of fairness” of course. Tiger will freak out whilst Shawn dances on the screen like a goof whilst his music plays. Next week, we settle the score once and for all!

Segment 4
Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 5
Val Venis Vs Al Snow w/ The Head

This is a competitive match between the two, with both of the wrestlers due to receive Title shots at WrestleMania XV (Venis going for the IC Title whilst Snow tries to win the Hardcore Title). After a back and forth contest, Snow will pick up the win but we’ll protect Venis somewhat by having the finish come from the ref getting momentarily dazed from a stray back elbow from Venis, leading to Snow clocking Venis with The Head and then getting a three count from the now-re-focused zebra. We get a pin fall victory, but Venis has an out for the loss.

10 Minutes Total for Segment. 7 Minutes for the Match. 3 Minutes for Entrances (Val also has pre-match mic work to do)
30 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 6
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

Segment 7
Video Recap of the feud between Droz/Prince Albert and The Road Warriors ahead of tonight’s Street Fight

This video will recap the basic background of the storyline and feud, covering how Droz was originally aligned with The Warriors until they kicked him out when his plan to usurp Hawk as Animal’s partner failed. This led to Droz bringing in Prince Albert as his new partner, which then lead to the two tandems fighting to a number of unsatisfactory conclusions. This week it’s a New York Street Fight, meaning we are guaranteed a clear winner and the feud will finally come to an end. The question is, which team will stand tall when all is said and done?

Segment 8
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

Segment 9
New York Street Fight
Droz and Prince Albert Vs The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal)

This will be a wild brawl, with all four wrestlers fighting all over the place in an effort to bring this brutal rivalry to a close. Normally in a situation like this you would expect the babyface team of The Road Warriors to pick up the win, and were The Roadie’s sticking around that is the finish I might have gone with. However, The Road Warriors are gone following WrestleMania XV (Not my personal decision, but this is something you have to deal with when you’re just writing the TV for the weekend syndicated show) so it really serves no purpose to put over the team that is leaving. You could also make an argument that it makes more sense for the younger team to win anyway as ultimately it doesn’t do much for the product to have The Road Warriors winning feuds when they could be putting up-and-comers over.

Thus, Droz and Albert will pick up the win here, when Droz clatters Hawk with one of the funky LOD 2000 helmets. Albert and Animal will have put one another through a table in the corner prior to this, leaving us with a Droz Vs Hawk collision to finally bring things to a close. Hawk will look to have things in hand, but a recovering Albert will grab Hawk by the ankle just as Hawk is prepping to finish things. Hawk will turn around to stomp Albert and put him back down, but the distraction will give Droz the time to collect the weapon and swing it for the three count. Droz and Albert will celebrate in the rampway following the contest, whilst The Road Warriors will console one another before saluting the crowd and heading off into the sunset, defeated but not broken by the ordeal.

End of Show

We ended one feud this week and we’ll end another one next week when Tiger takes on Blackman. Overall I think we got as much out of the Droz/Albert Vs Road Warriors as we were going to, and to be honest it was probably elongated past the point it should have been anyway due to Droz working so much on Raw/HeAT and me trying to avoid double booking him unless I absolutely had to. Ultimately the feud ended with Droz and Albert picking up the win but The Road Warriors retaining their dignity in defeat, which is probably the best outcome we could have had. I probably would have kept using The Road Warriors if they’d been retained by WWF management, but as it stands this will be the last time they appear on Shotgun.

Too Much and The Hardyz still have their issue bubbling over, so I’ll aim to do a bit more with that over the next batch of episodes so that we can build to a conclusion. Tiger Vs Blackman is another feud that has probably gone on for too long, which again is down to Blackman getting double booked on quite a few occasions, meaning that I’ve had to stretch it out a bit longer than I perhaps would have wanted to. That’s the issue that comes with trying to book one of the weekend crew with someone who actually gets booked on the main shows though I guess.

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!

(BTW if anyone would to offer to make match graphics for the bigger matches we’re having each week then feel free to send me a line over at [email protected])
