By Michael Fitzgerald on 10 January 2024

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

The Godfather defeated Tiger Ali Singh following a distraction by Steve Blackman. A match was then booked between Tiger and The Lethal Weapon for this week’s episode.

Viscera and Mideon squished Scorpio and Flash Flanagan

Chyna and Shane McMahon got a win over Lou Marconi and Sean Casey

The Hardy Boyz defeated Too Much

Droz and Prince Albert brawled to a No Contest with The Road Warriors

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 14th of March 1999 from Bakersfield, California

Segment 1
Tiger Ali Singh Vs Steve Blackman

These two have been feuding for a few weeks now, with Tiger costing Blackman a match two weeks ago and Blackman getting his revenge on last week’s show. Tiger will spend most of the match on the defensive here, with him struggling to find an answer for Blackman’s combination of martial arts striking and cruel submission moves. Eventually though Tiger will find himself an opening when the referee catches an errant elbow to the face whilst Blackman is laying in some punishment. With the referee momentarily dazed, Tiger will dig his fingers into Blackman’s eyes and then get a rope assisted pin attempt, just as the referee turns around in order to count the three. Tiger will have no intention of receiving any revenge attacks from Blackman and will thus get out of the ring and scoot back up the aisle whilst Blackman checks his vision; and then seethes once he realises what just happened.

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 3
Pre-Tape Promo Segment with WWF Tag Team Champs Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett, with Debra and Kevin Kelly

Owen and Jarrett will be defending their Tag Titles later on in the evening against The Hardy Boyz after the latter team managed to get a win over Too Much last week. Owen and Jarrett will give The Hardyz credit for their victory last week, but will also state that The Hardyz don’t have close to the level of experience that The Champs have, and that will prove the difference later on.

Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 5
The Disciples of Apocalypse (Skull and 8-Ball) Vs D-Generation X (Triple H and X-Pac)

The rest of the matches on this episode of Shotgun all actually took place in real life, with this contest being the Main Event of the episode if Cage Match is anything to go by. HHH and X-Pac are the bigger stars here, so clearly they’ll be going over clean in the end, but DOA won’t be buried either. DOA will get a quick heat segment on X-Pac following a distraction from Pete Gas and Rodney, who are friends of X-Pac’s rival Shane McMahon and are watching in the crowd. Eventually X-Pac will make the hot tag to Triple H and things will turn around for DX, with Triple H giving Skull the Pedigree whilst X-Pac dives out of the ring onto 8-Ball in order to nullify him. DX will challenge Rodney and Gas to step into the ring following the match, but they will instead stand up from their seats and walk away.

Segment 6
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

Segment 7
Video Recap of the feud between Droz/Prince Albert and The Road Warriors

This is a quick video to catch us up as to the goings on in this feud. Droz used to be aligned with The Road Warriors, with the goal of usurping Hawk as Animal’s new partner. However, his schemes have been foiled and The Road Warriors have been looking for payback, leading to Droz bringing in Prince Albert to back him up. Last week the two teams brawled to a No Contest, a result that satisfied neither duo. The issues between them are far from settled.

Segment 8
Droz w/ Prince Albert Vs Christopher Daniels

This match took place on the real taping, but we’ll leave it in here as I like Daniels and it’s fun to include him. We’ll modify the match somewhat by giving them 5 minutes for the match section instead of the 3 they got in real life, just so Daniels can actually get a bit of a shine and a brief comeback until it’s time for him to eat a clean pin. Droz and Albert will look to brutalise Daniels following the match, but The Road Warriors will run down to chase them off and will then lay down a challenge for next week’s show. Droz and Albert will accept, but then Hawk will drop the bombshell that the match next week will be a Street Fight!!

Segment 9
Pre-Taped Backstage Promo with The Hardy Boyz and Kevin Kelly

This is a quick promo for The Hardyz so that they can get a chance to hype up their match for the Tag Team Titles. The Hardyz will state that, though they are young and the underdogs here, they will give everything they have so that their win last week to get into contention wasn’t for naught. Speaking of last week; Too Much will interrupt the end of the promo to state that The Hardyz got lucky last week and won’t win the belts tonight. The Hardyz decide to avoid a fight for now, but say that if Too Much want another match, they know where to find them.

Segment 10
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

Segment 11
WWF Tag Team Titles
Champs: Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett w/ Debra Vs The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff)

The Hardyz can get plenty of offence in during this one, with the match being a full on competitive bout. The Champs will work some heat on Jeff until it’s time for hot tag Matt, leading to a few near falls until Owen is able to catch Matt in the Sharpshooter for the clean submission victory whilst Jarrett keeps Jeff at bay. Owen and Jarrett can both believably take bumps for The Hardyz as there isn’t much of a size difference between them, and The Champs will no doubt do a good job of shining up the young babyfaces until it’s time to take the match home. Losing a competitive match to The Champs shouldn’t do The Hardyz any harm and this should hopefully be an enjoyable quick paced TV match to close the show.

End of Show

We kept our two main feuds (Tiger/Blackman and Droz/Albert/Roadies) going this week, with both of them being advanced, whilst also teasing further issues between Too Much/Hardyz and also keeping X-Pac’s WrestleMania build chugging along. Every match ended with a pin or a submission this week with almost zero outside interference, which is pretty unusual for a show during the Attitude Era. Tiger Vs Blackman likely wasn’t a great match, but Tiger got a pin whilst still being an underhanded jerk, so we might have space for one more match between the two at the very least.

The Main Event and DOA/DX both had clean finishes and were hopefully enjoyable matches. Christopher Daniels was able to get a nice little showcase before eating a pin and wasn’t made to look too weak in the process, whilst Droz still got a clean win on TV before moving along his storyline one step closer to a conclusion.

Next week will be the end of the feud between Droz/Albert and The Road Warriors. Partly because a Street Fight is a natural conclusion to a long running feud, partly because Droz is showing up on Raw and HeAT pretty regularly so it isn’t always possible to book him for Shotgun, and also partly because The Road Warriors will soon be leaving the WWF so we need to get this thing finished off before they go. Hopefully the match itself will be a fun wild brawl and a suitable conclusion to the storyline, but that’s for next week.

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
