Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 27th February 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 20 December 2023

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

Viscera flattened Goldust thanks to a distraction from Val Venis

Tiger Ali Singh was supposed to wrestle enhancement talent Brian Logan, but Steve Blackman chased Tiger off with a Singapore cane and then put a beat down on an indignant Logan for good measure

The Road Warriors defeated Too Much and then laid down a challenge to Droz and Prince Albert

The Godfather defeated Buddy Landel in a squash match

Droz and Prince Albert denied The Road Warriors their match for the meantime

Edge got a clean win over Al Snow in a competitive show closing contest

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 16th of February 1999 from Chattanooga, Tennessee
Episode aired on the 27th of February 1999

Show Intro

We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

1 Minute for Segment
1 Minute Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 1
Frank Parker and Roger Hill Vs The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff)

The Hardyz get a win to open the show here, although we’ll keep it at a level above a basic squash just because The Hardyz aren’t really at the level where they’ll be squashing folk. Thus they can work subtle Heel here, working over one of Parker or Hill until the other guy gets a brief flurry following a mild tag until it’s time for The Hardyz to pick up the clean win.

6 Minutes Total for Segment. 5 Minutes for the match. 1 Minute for Hardyz Entrance
7 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

2 Minutes for Segment
9 Minutes total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 3
Tiger Ali Singh Vs Buddy Landel

Tiger follows his usual M.O. here of cutting a promo prior to the match in order to wind up the American crowd. Once again though, Tiger foolishly can’t leave things well alone and makes sure to get some jibes in at Steve Blackman. As the match itself progresses, Tiger seems to have things well in hand, with the two wrestlers fighting outside of the ring. Tiger rolls Landel back inside, but then turns to see that Blackman is standing in the crowd and climbing the barricades to get into the ringside area. Tiger decides to flee down the ramp to the back rather than contend with The Lethal Weapon, which gives the referee no choice but to count Tiger out seeing as Blackman never touched him, so a DQ can’t be called. Thus Landel picks up an improbable win, whilst we see that Tiger is fleeing in the backstage area, with Blackman not even bothering to give chase this time seeing as he’s already achieved what he wanted to achieve by causing Tiger a humiliating defeat against an enhancement guy.

6 Minutes Total for Segment. 2 Minutes for the Match. 4 Minutes for Tiger’s Entrance, Pre-Match Promo and Post-Match
15 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 4
Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

2 Minutes Total for Segment
17 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 5
Video Recap of the Feud between Droz/Albert and The Road Warriors

As the title suggests, we get a video recap of the feud up to this stage, showing Albert debuting on a previous edition of Shotgun to help Droz defeat Hawk, leading to The Road Warriors unsuccessfully trying to goad the Heel tandem into a tag team bout in order to settle things.

2 Minutes Segment
19 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 6
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

2 Minutes for Segment
21 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 7
Prince Albert w/ Droz Vs Mike Kyle

This is a squash match win for Albert, as he blitzes through Kyle and gets the clean win with The Baldo Bomb. Post-Match we get The Road Warriors running down to get some of their rivals, leading to a mass of Road Agents and referees having to break it up. Droz and Albert retreat to the floor, which leads to The Road Warriors creaming poor Kyle with The DOOMsday Device in order to send a message to Droz and Albert. What will the next chapter of this feud entail?

8 Minutes Total for Segment. 3 Minutes for the match. 5 Minutes for Albert Entrance and Post-Match
28 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 8
Pre-Tape Promo with The Hardy Boyz, with Michael Cole

The Hardyz are happy to have picked up the win and say that they are going to try and use it as a jumping point to kick on their careers in the WWF. Just a quick segment designed to flesh out their personalities a bit and also show the viewers that they are actual proper wrestlers on the show deserving of promo time and not just enhancement guys anymore.

1 Minute for Segment
29 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 9
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

1 Minute for Segment
30 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 10
Pre-Tape Promo from Triple H, with Kevin Kelly

Things haven’t been going too well for Triple H recently due to Chyna leaving both him and D-Generation X in the lurch. Tri says that he’s going to take out a lot of his recent frustration on his opponent tonight, so Christian better be wary.

1 Minute Segment
31 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 11
Christian Vs Triple H

Gangrel and Edge are wrestling elsewhere on the tapings, so we’ll let Christian get a featured singles match this week against Triple H. Both of these wrestlers are solid workers, so we’ll give them a decent chunk of time to work with and just let them have an entertaining well-worked match to close the show. Christian can work some heat on Triple H for a bit until it’s time for Tri to use the KNEE and make a comeback, leading to some near falls until The Pedigree takes us home. Triple H can celebrate following the match and that can close the show out.

14 Minutes Total for Segment. 10 Minutes for the Match. 4 Minutes for Entrances and Post-Match

End of Show

We get a long decent match with a clean finish this week, which should go some way to differentiating Shotgun from the rest of the product at the time. We’ve still got the Sports Entertainment side of things covered as well, with the Droz/Albert Vs Road Warriors and Tiger Vs Blackman feuds getting some further advancement. Soon we’ll be getting matches in the ring in order to try and settle these issues. I would have ideally liked to have had Tiger wrestle Blackman this week actually, but what with it being a four show taping I had a pretty small roster of guys to choose from, so we got the show we got. Blackman was wrestling Droz of all people on Raw, so that meant I couldn’t book a match in EITHER of the main feuds this week. Eventually I’m going to have to just double book some folks in order to avoid the storylines moving into limbo. Fingers crossed that the upcoming tapings are kind to me.

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
