What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – August 29, 1992
By LScisco on 13 December 2023
There is a recap of what happened when Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior faced the Nasty Boys at SummerSlam Spectacular.
Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect are doing commentary, starting a new taping cycle in Huntsville, Alabama. According to thehistoryofwwe.com, the taping took place on August 10.
Opening Contest: Ric Flair (w/Mr. Perfect) (8-1) beats Joey Maggs via submission to the figure-four leglock at 2:55:
Flair appears to like working in front of a Southern audience again as he gets a lot of copycat “Woos!” throughout. Maggs lands a few dropkicks but Flair corners him and lays in some chops, throwing him over the top rope so Perfect can get in a kick to the ribs. When Maggs goes after Perfect, Flair comes off the apron to hit Maggs in the back of the head and Perfect gets in another cheap shot behind referee Bill Alfonso’s back. Back in, Flair lands a suplex, struts, and locks in the figure-four as McMahon hypes the threat of Perfect as a manager for SummerSlam.
The Ultimate Warrior does a taped promo accusing WWF Champion Randy Savage of selling out to Flair and Perfect and paying them to beat him up several weeks ago on Superstars. He promises to release all of his fury and rage on Savage in Wembley Stadium.
After a commercial, Savage makes his own case for the Warrior being in cahoots with Flair and Perfect, saying that the Warrior had him set up on Superstars several weeks ago and that he pulled punches when he saved him from a two-on-one beatdown. He also notes that the Warrior’s interview with Gene Okerlund was the first time Perfect being a manager for SummerSlam was discussed and that the Warrior wants the WWF title so bad he had Flair and Perfect beat him up on SummerSlam Spectacular. Savage promises to overcome the odds and leave SummerSlam with the title.
Tatanka (27-0) beats Pat Rose after the Samoan Drop at 3:00:
Rose was a trainee of Ken Hawk and began working in the late 1970s in Tennesssee. He worked a lot in tag teams working with Dr. Tom Prichard, Marcel Pringle, Mr. Wrestling II, Jackie Fargo, and Arn Anderson. He had been doing enhancement matches for the WWF and WCW going back to 1989.
In the split screen Tatanka tells the Berzerker that he will feel the power of his tomahawk chop at SummerSlam. Tatanka kills time with an armbar and spams body slams, doing three of them before doing the flying chop-Samoan Drop finish.
Kamala (w/Harvey Wippleman & Kim Chee) (14-0) pins Jeff Daniels after the splash to the back at 1:47:
Daniels was busy as an opening act and enhancement talent in 1992, working for the USWA, Smoky Mountain, WCW, and the WWF. He later took on the nickname “The Crippler” on the independent circuit.
In the split screen, Wippleman warns Paul Bearer that the ashes in the urn will be the Undertaker’s after SummerSlam. Kamala wins with his usual style as McMahon and Perfect try to sell the Kamala-Undertaker SummerSlam match. After the bell, Kamala goes to the top rope but Wippleman and Kim Chee order him down.
Footage of Papa Shango putting a curse on Bret Hart on last week’s show airs.
Non-Title Match: Bret Hart (Intercontinental Champion) (27-1-1) beats Louie Spicolli via submission to the Sharpshooter at 2:59:
Perfect argues that because of Shango’s curse Bret will lose the Intercontinental title to the British Bulldog at SummerSlam. Bret does an insert promo, telling the Bulldog that their families will reunite after SummerSlam but he is still going to be Intercontinental champion when the night is over. The squashes are going long on today’s program because the WWF wants there to be enough time for McMahon and Perfect to hype the various feuds for SummerSlam.

Gene Okerlund does the SummerSlam Report. The Undertaker and Paul Bearer tell Kamala that his future will exist in darkness. The Legion of Doom, Paul Ellering, and Rocco note that Money Incorporated is going to lose a lot of teeth in England.
Rick Martel (21-5-1) defeats Justin Taylor via submission to the Boston Crab at 2:16:
McMahon is not happy with the stipulation for Martel’s clash with Shawn Michaels, arguing that it reminds him of elementary school. Sensational Sherri gets an insert to talk about how excited she is for SummerSlam and how neither man will lose their distinguishing looks because of the provision of not hitting each other in the face. Taylor surprises Martel with a small package for two but that just gets Martel’s dander up as he quickly delivers a backbreaker and submits Taylor with the Boston Crab.
Perfect drags out an announcement of the corner he will be in for SummerSlam until the show goes off the air.
The Last Word: This was a placeholder show at the taping until the WWF got through SummerSlam. The promos by the Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage, spliced into footage of the events of the past month, were a nice way to get fans excited about the SummerSlam main event, reminiscent of Savage’s promos against Hulk Hogan prior to WrestleMania V.
