Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 20th February 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 13 December 2023

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

Bob Holly and Scorpio defeated Skull and 8-Ball in tag action, although there was tension between the two after the bout. Holly has since gone out on his own following the recent pay per view

Prince Albert got a quick win over Golga in his in-ring debut. Droz and Albert mocked The Road Warriors following the bout

Steve Blackman got a DQ win over Tiger Ali Singh when Singh attacked Blackman with his own Singapore cane. Blackman managed to dis-arm Tiger following the bout, leading to Tiger fleeing for his life

The Blue Meanie got a win over Jeff Hardy with the Meanie-Sault

Matt Hardy defeated fellow Light Heavyweight contender Kevin Quinn

The Road Warriors threatened revenge on Droz and Albert

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 15th of February 1999 Birmingham, Alabama
Episode aired on the 20th of February 1999

Show Intro

We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

Segment 1
Viscera Vs Goldust

Viscera and The Ministry of Darkness were getting a bit of a push at the time, so we’ll give Viscera a win here. We’ll use the result of the bout as a way to hype up a future match Goldust has too, as he was due to wrestle Val Venis on the 22nd February edition of Raw. Goldust will have Viscera on the ropes and will be in the process of trying to heave his tree trunk like legs into the corner so that he can deliver some Shattered Dreams. However, Venis will provide a distraction during this, which will allow Viscera to crush Goldust with a suplex for the three count. Venis can taunt Goldust post-match whilst he tries to regain his breath. Viscera gets a win and Goldust has an out so that we can continue an issue he has brewing with Venis.

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

10 Minutes total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 3
Tiger Ali Singh, Brian Logan and Steve Blackman angle

Tiger is due to wrestle enhancement guy Brian Logan in a match here, but before the match starts he has to cut his customary annoying promo where he insults the fans. Tiger of course goes too far and references Steve Blackman, which leads to Blackman charging down to the ring with his trusty Singapore cane. Tiger will flee to the floor and will refuse to get into the ring. This will annoy Logan, who seeing his chance to wrestle on TV slipping away, will request that Blackman leave so that the match can take place. That will go about as well for Logan as you’d expect, as Blackman will clobber the enhancement talent with the cane as a message to Tiger, with Tiger wincing and shuddering at every blow.

Segment 4
Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 5
Too Much (Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor) Vs The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal)

Too Much got a win the last time they were on Shotgun, so they’ll get a little bit of heat in on The Road Warriors until it’s time for The Roadies to put them away with the DOOMsday Device. Following the bout, The Road Warriors grab the mic and lay down a challenge to Droz and Prince Albert for a tag team match.

10 Minutes Total for Segment. 5 Minutes for the Match. 5 Minutes for Entrances and Post-Match
26 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 6
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

2 Minutes for Segment
29 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 7
Buddy Landel Vs The Godfather

Godfather tries his usual spiel of offering Landel some ladies in exchange for Landel agreeing to forfeit the bout. Landel grabs the mic however and refuses the offer, because he’s too good looking to need to do that. Thus the match takes place and Godfather takes little time to put the enhancement talent away. Godfather then has a celebratory dance with the ladies. Godfather gets a win to pad his record and Landel has a chance to be funny on the mic before losing.

6 Minutes Total for Segment. 2 Minutes for the match. 4 Minutes for Godfather Entrance, Pre-Match and Post-Match
34 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 8
Pre-Tape Promo from Droz and Prince Albert, with Michael Cole

Droz and Albert laugh about the challenge from The Road Warriors, saying that they’ll do this when they say so, and in the meantime they’re going to leave the The Roadies to stew. This feud will continue!

35 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 9
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

1 Minute for Segment
36 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 10
Edge Vs Al Snow

Though The J.O.B Squad was pretty much done by this point, there was still some simmering resentment between The Brood and Snow, so we get a match to continue that here on Shotgun. This will be a competitive back and forth match, with Edge eventually picking up the win with the Downward Spiral after countering the Snow Plow

9 Minutes Total for Segment. 7 Minutes for the Match. 2 Minutes for Entrances
45 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

End of Show

Another week where we keep things ticking along for the two major storylines on the show, whilst also adding something to help hype up a match for the next episode of Raw, and then we’ve got what should be a decent match to close things with a clean finish. I’m starting to slot into a comfortable groove with these shows right now, but I’ll have to make sure not to make them too formula. We’re getting a reasonable amount of time dedicated to the matches at the moment, and on weeks where some of the better wrestlers aren’t already working elsewhere on the taping I can bring them in for some longer matches. We’re going to be doing that next week in fact, so how’s that for a hook?

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
