Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 6th February 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 6 December 2023

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.

Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!

Last week on Shotgun;

D-Lo Brown defeated Christian in singles action

Tiger Ali Singh fled the venue rather than receive a beating from Steve Blackman

The Godfather tried to offer Scorpio and Bob Holly some ladies rather than wrestling, but Holly refused and a match took place, with Godfather eventually winning when Holly and Scorp had a tiff

Too Cool got a cheap win over The Oddities

Droz defeated Road Warrior Hawk when Prince Albert made his debut and helped Droz pick up the win

And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!

This taping took place on the 26th of January 1999 from Tucson, Arizona
Episode aired on the 6th of February 1999

Four Shows were held;

Super Astros Taping

Monday Night Raw Taping

Once again we’ve got four shows in one night. Pour one out for the poor sods in Tucson!

Show Intro

We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

Segment 1
The Disciples of Apocalypse (8-Ball and Skull) Vs The J.O.B Squad (Bob Holly and Scorpio)

We open things up with some tag team action, as The DOA face The J.O.B Squad in a rematch from an earlier episode of Shotgun that we booked. In real life, Holly and Scorp actually wrestled Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett on this show, but they’re already booked on HeAT, so instead of double booking them I’ll let The DOA get a payday as they were still around at this point. I was unsure what to do for a result, seeing as Holly would soon be breaking way from The J.O.B Squad in order to feud with Al Snow, so we could easily have DOA win here as a way to build to that. However, I have little interest in pushing The DOA, so instead we’ll have Holly and Scorpio pick up the win, but Scorpio can “steal” the pin by blind tagging in for the 450 Splash, which leads to Holly being annoyed so there’s some more build to him eventually moving on from the stable.

Segment 2
Sunday Night HeAT Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 3
Prince Albert w/ Droz Vs Golga w/ Kurrgan and Giant Silva

This is Albert’s in-ring debut after showing up last week in order to help Droz defeat Hawk. Sadly for John Tenta, he’s not going to have much time to do anything here as the match is primarily designed to make Albert look good. I did have a look online to see if there were any local Tucson guys I could have booked here, but the only name I could find was Johnnie Walker and he didn’t seem to ever get booked as an extra in the WWF, so I felt it would stretch credibility too much to just magic him up for this one. So sadly for Golga he gets clobbered by Albert and put away rather quickly. Droz looked to have a side-issue with The Oddities on Raw anyway, so this can play into that. Following the match, Droz and Albert tear up one of those old foam Road Warrior styled shoulder pads in order to send a message to their rivals.

Segment 4
Monday Night Raw Recap

This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 5
Tiger Ali Singh Vs Steve Blackman

After fleeing from Blackman last week, Tiger has to face the music this week, and mostly finds himself getting battered by the superior fighter in Blackman. Eventually Tiger decides that he can’t persevere with the bout any further and, whilst the ref is keeping Blackman back before he dishes out some more punishment, Tiger desperately grabs Blackman’s trademark Singapore Cane and hits Blackman in the head with it for the blatant DQ. Following the bout, Tiger tries to put a beat down on Blackman with the cane, but Blackman manages to dis-arm Tiger and take the cane for himself, leading to Tiger fleeing once again before Blackman can dish out some wooden justice. This feud will continue! DQ’s are lame, but we’re going somewhere with it.

9 Minutes Total for Segment. 5 Minutes for the Match. 4 Minutes for Entrances and Post-Match
25 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 6
Pay Per View Centre

This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

2 Minutes for Segment
27 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 7
The Blue Meanie Vs Jeff Hardy

Matt seems to be working two guys who don’t have CageMatch profiles this week, but Jeff appears to be free, so we’ll stick him in there for a competitive match with Blue Meanie. Believe it or not, Meanie was arguably higher up the food-chain than Jeff was at the time, and he’d actually be wrestling Goldust on the next pay per view. For those reasons, Meanie goes over clean with the Meanie-Sault here, but Jeff will get his fair share of offence first before it’s time to look at the lights.

34 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 8
Live Event Centre

This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

1 Minute for Segment
35 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 9
Matt Hardy Vs Kevin Quinn

Originally I was going to book Gillberg in a match for the Light Heavyweight Title, but there’s only so much you can do with that one-note comedy character, especially when I don’t have the power to actually change the belt and put it on someone better. So instead, we’ll let Matt Hardy get a win on TV over fellow quasi-enhancement guy Kevin Quinn. Neither of these guys were at the stage where you’d be expecting them to get squashed every week here. They’d usually lose, but they wouldn’t be getting slaughtered all of the time either. They can have a competitive back and forth match here, leading to Matt picking up the clean win with the Northern Lights Suplex.

8 Minutes Total for Segment. 6 Minutes for the match. 2 Minutes for Entrances and Post-Match
43 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

Segment 10
Pre-Taped Road Warrior Promo with Michael Cole

We get a promo from The Road Warriors to close us out. They recap the feud with Droz up to this point and then address Prince Albert’s arrival in the promotion. The Road Warriors close the promo by saying that they prefer it this way, as Droz can have no excuses when they get their revenge on him.

45 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45

End of Show

More of a placeholder show this week, as we keep the storylines moving and give some of the lower card guys some wins. On the bright side, the two matches involving The Hardy Boyz should have potential for being entertaining at least. Tiger Ali Singh constantly managing to escape before finally getting his comeuppance is frustrating of course, but the plan is that eventually he’ll get his and the regular watchers of the show will get a kick out of it. Droz and Albert against The Road Warriors isn’t a feud where the in-ring is going to be spectacular, so keeping it mostly to angles, promos and quicker matches isn’t the worst way to go about it. There actually won’t be a show airing on the 13th of February as Raw is going to be moved to that day, so we’ll be back on the 20th of February.

Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
