I remember when some of the top stars with pull backstage like HHH or Undertaker would request that Jim Ross come back and announce their matches at WrestleMania. If you were one of the more influential guys now, would you request that JR NOT announce your match? I don't know if there is a worse person in 2023 to announce AEW's type of wrestling — especially those “party matches” as you call them– other than maybe Jim Cornette, but at least that would be sort of entertaining at times. I can't believe they had him announcing the Elite's tag matches; it seems like a good rule would be that if Rick Knox is refereeing, JR shouldn't be out there.
I know Vince was trying to get him off commentary because he was too old for years and years but now he really is too old.
