Mike Rebooks WCW Starrcade 1993

15th March 2023 by Michael Fitzgerald
Rants

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Last week I rebooked WrestleMania VIII on the assumption that the owner of the promotion mandated a certain Main Event, thus ensuring I would be forced to mix up the card a bit. This week we’ll do the same with WCW Starrcade 1993.

In this universe, we’re going to assume that the scissor incident between Sid and Arn Anderson didn’t take place, thus meaning I’ll be expected to close the show with the previously planned Main Event of Vader Vs Sid.

Let’s see if I can be amendable to the WCW hierarchy whilst still putting on a fun Starrcade 1993.

If you wish to view the original card you can do so by clicking below;

Card with guide « WCW Starrcade 1993 « Events Database « CAGEMATCH – The Internet Wrestling Database

Opening Match
Pretty Wonderful (Paul Roma and Paul Orndorff) w/ Jody Hamilton Vs Too Cold Scorpio and Marcus Bagwell w/ Teddy Long
12 Minutes

We’ll keep this one as it was in real life as it’s a good match. Pretty Wonderful picks up the win in order to heat them up as potential Champions in 1994.

Match Two
NJPW Vs WCW
Hiroshi Hase Vs Flyin’ Brian
12 Minutes

We bring in Hase as part of the New Japan relationship here, as he’s a great wrestler and I believe he’d already wrestled Brian in the past, so they should be able to work an exciting match together. Brian picks up the win after what will hopefully have been a hot match.

Match Three
The Kong’s (Awesome and King) Vs The Shockmaster and John Tenta
3 Minutes

Rather than having Fred Ottman wrestle one of the Kong’s in a poor singles match, we’ll bring John Tenta in to reunite The Natural Disasters, giving them a quick squash win over the lumpy Kong’s. This gives us another team in the mid-card that can work as either Face or Heel, and the match should hopefully not be too bad if we keep in short and let Tenta do most of the work.

Match Four
WCW World Television Title
Champ: Lord Steven Regal w/ Sir William Vs Arn Anderson
15 Minutes

Seeing as Anderson hasn’t been in a scissor fight in this scenario, he’s able to work Starrcade 1993 and does so against Regal, as the two wrestle to a draw. They were going to wrestle at SuperBrawl IV anyway so this will be a good way to set that one up.

Match Five
Tex Slazenger and Shanghai Pierce Vs Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne
6 Minutes

No real need to change this one, although we might shorten it a bit so Cactus and Payne get a snappier win. Either way, Cactus and Payne get their hands raised to heat them up for their eventual Tag Team Title success.

Match Six
WCW United States Title
Champ: Dustin Rhodes Vs Stunning Steve w/ Colonel Robert Parker
20 Minutes

We’ll drop the two out of three falls stipulation here, but aside from that we’ll let them go out and have a good match for 20 minutes until Austin ends up snatching a win, possibly clean with the Stun Gun when Rhodes has him on the back foot.

Semi-Main
WCW Tag Team Champions The Nasty Boys (Knobbs and Sags) and WCW International Champion Ravishing Rick Rude w/ Missy Hyatt Vs Ric Flair, Sting and Ricky Steamboat
20 Minutes

I will bring Ray Traylor in eventually because I’m a fan of his work, but I won’t do it here as I don’t think the singles match with Rude did much for him. Instead we’ll load up the babyface side here and have Steamboat pick up the pin fall victory over Rude to set him up for a challenger to Rude’s belt in the early stages of 1994.

Main Event
WCW World Title
Champ: Vader w/ Harley Race Vs Sid
10 Minutes

I really don’t like Sid very much but we probably need to end the big event of the year with a new babyface Champion, so that’s what we’ll do. We’ll keep it relatively short at 10 minutes and have Sid pick up the win with a Choke Slam following some Heel miscommunication.

In Conclusion

I think this would have been a relatively fun show to watch provided that everyone delivered a good performance and wrestled up to or above their usual levels. Flair and Steamboat get to pick up the win in their “home” territory, we beef up the Tag Division, we plant some seeds for next year and we end the show with a new babyface Champion. It’s probably unlikely that Sid will succeed as Champion because he famously never did whenever one of WCW or the WWF gave him the top belt, but it does at least give us a big monster for Hulk Hogan to slay upon his entry to the company next year, which also means we can keep Ric Flair as a babyface until it’s time for the big betrayal and Title shot at Hogan when Starrcade 1994 rolls around.

Just throwing a card together to follow on from Starrcade 1993, I’m thinking SuperBrawl IV would probably look something like this

WCW Title Rematch
Champ: Sid Vs Vader

WCW International Title
Champ: Rick Rude Vs Ricky Steamboat

WCW Tag Team Titles
Champs: The Nasty Boys Vs Cactus and Payne

WCW United States Title
Champ: Stunning Steve Vs Flyin’ Brian

WCW World Television Title
Champ: Lord Steven Regal Vs Arn Anderson

NJPW Vs WCW
Scott Norton Vs Sting

NJPW Vs WCW
Riki Choshu Vs Ric Flair

NJPW Vs WCW
The Hell Raisers Vs Harlem Heat

I think ultimately the big goal would be to unify the two World Titles, either with Rude winning them and then feuding with Hogan or Sid winning them and going Heel. Either way, once Hogan comes in he’s going to want that belt, BROTHER!

I hope you enjoyed reading this. Please feel free to share your own booking ideas in the comments section as I find that aspect of this fun.

All the best till next time!
