Rants

Sean Mooney and Bobby Heenan are tonight’s hosts. Mooney brings out a globe because tonight’s guests are international stars.

The Rockers-Natural Disasters match from Wrestling Challenge starts the show.

The Big Bossman’s squash from Superstars is shown.

Gene Okerlund’s Update segment recaps the Roddy Piper-Ric Flair feud.

El Matador is the evening’s first guest. He recaps how he learned bullfighting as Heenan scoffs at it all.

El Matador’s squash of Tanaka on Wrestling Challenge is shown.

Back in the studio, El Matador tells Heenan that he is going to find a bull for Heenan to fight.

Mooney tells fans that a grand prize has been added to the Hulk Hogan Hotline where you can meet the WWF Champion.

Big Bully Busick (w/Harvey Wippleman) (6-4) beats the Brooklyn Brawler (1-16) when Harvey Wippleman interferes at 4:50:

This is a rematch from last week’s encounter and the fighting begins before the opening bell. It is another bad match as Busick and the Brawler exchange rest holds and chokes. The fight spills to the floor, where the Brawler lands a suplex but when he goes to slam Busick into the ring, Wippleman trips him and Busick lands on top to even the feud at a win a piece. Rating: ¼*

A replay of Sergeant Slaughter’s vignette at Bunker Hill is shown.

Colonel Mustafa and General Adnan are the next guests. Adnan speaks in English to blame Slaughter for their loss in the “Match Made in Hell” and accuses him of being a traitor to Iraq. Mustafa chimes in that he is going to make Slaughter’s “fat body” pay. They destroy a medal of honor that Slaughter once gave them because they want nothing to do with him.

Sid Justice’s squash of Mustafa on Superstars airs.

The Mountie and Jimmy Hart enter the studio as Mooney and Heenan try to dodge a plastic globe that swings from the ceiling. There is a recap of the Mountie shocking Bret Hart on Superstars, and the Mountie argues that he was not disciplined for the incident because he is a good man. He also insists that Jimmy Hart threw water on Bret because he needed to bathe, not to make him more vulnerable to the shock stick. The Mountie yells about who he is and hypes the power of his Survivor Series team before leaving.

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan’s Barber Shop interview from Wrestling Challenge is shown.

Heenan bets Mooney dinner that the Undertaker will kill Hulkamania at Survivor Series.

The British Bulldog is the next studio guest, and he puts over his battle royal victory at Royal Albert Hall as a win for the British people. He puts over his Survivor Series team as being tough enough to survive.

The British Bulldog (33-2-1) beats the Warlord (w/Slick) (22-3-2) via count out at 4:48 shown:

The bout is joined in progress and is not as good their hoss battle at WrestleMania. The Bulldog fights out of a bearhug and lands an impressive vertical suplex. Three clotheslines send the Warlord over the top rope and the Bulldog tosses Slick into the ring, where he gives the Doctor of Style a running powerslam. The Warlord is so upset by these events that he pulls his manager from the ring, grabs Slick’s hat, and carries him to the locker room and gets counted out. Talk about a dumb finish. This would be Slick’s last televised appearance as a heel manager. Rating: *

Mooney tells fans that the Bulldog ended Slick’s career. The Bulldog tells the Warlord that he will find out again why he is the strongest man in the WWF at Survivor Series.

Genichiro Tenryu makes an appearance as Heenan eats Chinese food. Mooney hypes how Tenryu teamed earlier this year in SWS with Hulk Hogan and the WWF shockingly shows footage of them getting ready to fight the Legion of Doom there. Tenryu takes the Chinese food Heenan is eating and dumps it on his head.

Okerlund does the Survivor Series Report.

Mooney models an autographed WWF Hulk Hogan jacket that fans can win in a drawing by calling the Hulk Hogan Hotline.

Virgil’s squash from Wrestling Challenge is shown.

The Berzerker (w/Mr. Fuji) (25-0) beats Bob Smedley via count out at 2:45:

A big boot puts Smedley on dream street and Berzerker gets instructions from Fuji on how to proceed. This prompts Gorilla Monsoon to wonder whether the Berzerker and Fuji talked before the bout or not. The Berzerker wins another match by count out, putting him over as a force on Skinner’s team for Survivor Series.

El Matador returns to the studio with the British Bulldog, who is carrying a bull’s head. The Bulldog chases Heenan around to end the broadcast.

Tune in next week to see Roddy Piper, Jake Roberts, the return of Mr. Perfect, and WBF Champion Gary Strydom!

The Last Word: Despite the hype for next week’s show, this would be the last studio edition of Prime Time Wrestling as the WWF changed formats for the third time in 1991 to a roundtable discussion where two heels and two babyfaces would debate issues in the company as Vince McMahon moderated. These studio shows had some hits but also lots of misfires, always dependent on if there was an entertaining angle running throughout. This show did not have one as there was a lame payoff for El Matador finding a bull to go after Bobby Heenan. And Heenan’s humor did not land on this show either as he spent the broadcast recycling past ethnic jokes about El Matador or Japanese people, none of which aged well for modern eyes.
