Why is Hangman AEW Champion?

Why oh why didn’t they put the belt on Bryan Danielson? People really stopped caring about Hangman as soon as he won the title and that’s because there are better options as champion. Aren’t there way better stories to tell with Bryan as the champion? Seems like they missed striking while the iron was hot.
