Raw question

This has probably been answered before but why is Raw on Monday? In 1993 Monday night football was arguably a bigger deal than it is now since back then it was actually the biggest game of the week. Was this just the only night offered by USA or does it have something to do with Vince's obsession with the NFL?
Raw was a replacement for Prime Time Wrestling so the time slot dates back to the 80s. Basically a “We’ve always done it this way” deal.
