Bret Hart Alternate Timeline if the Goldberg Career-Ending Injury Didn’t Happen

Hi Scott! Thanks for the years of good reading and discussion on your blog.
After watching the Bret Hart A&E documentary (decent summary of Bret's life and career, by the way), I was struck with a thought.
If the Bill Goldberg career-ending injury doesn't happen to Bret like it did, is there any chance he returns to WWE as an active competitor once WCW folds? Or does the Owen incident and Montreal incident preclude that from ever happening, in your opinion?
Keep on keepin' on, man.
Bret would 100 percent have returned because he wants to control his own legacy and also wouldn’t have wanted Shawn showing him up with HIS comeback. I have no doubt he’d get talked into it by Vince.
