Mr Wonderful death rumors

Your joke about The Ultimate Warrior dying in 1991 got me to thinking. What was the deal with the rumors that Mr Wonderful was dead in the late 80's? Frankly given all the urban myths that have been discussed on the BOD, I am amazed this has never come up

It came up a little bit when we were doing the Observer Flashbacks at the time, but it never gained traction because, frankly, Orndorff came back to WCW in 1990 and thus he was clearly not dead. But yeah, after the Hogan feud and his babyface turn, his neck was wrecked by nerve damage and he retired to run a bowling alley in Florida for a couple of years, which somehow people turned into "Paul Orndorff is dead". And then, as noted, he came back before it had a chance to really take off online, and that was that.
