–Chris Cruise, Dusty Rhodes, and Larry Zbyszko are doing commentary and they are taped from Gainesville, Georgia. According to thehistoryofwwe.com, these tapings took place on August 8.
–Opening Non-Title Contest: The Renegade (Television Champion w/Jimmy Hart) (18-0) beats Terry Richards after the Renegade Splash in 34 seconds:
The Renegade dazes Richards with some clotheslines and silence greets the Renegade’s splash off the top rope.
–Arn Anderson’s wife does an interview where he says that Anderson is very moody over his recent issues with Ric Flair. It has interfered with the family’s travel plans. Anderson crashes the interview, angry that his wife is being asked questions and he shuts it down.
–Gene Okerlund does the updated Fall Brawl Control Center. Flair and Anderson cut promos against each other for their match, repeating their major talking points in the feud up to this point.
–Kevin Sullivan (12-5) beats Al Phillips after a double stomp at 2:29:
Sullivan lays down in the aisle during his entrance, shaking to mimic what Hulk Hogan is going to be doing at Fall Brawl. Sullivan spends most of the match beating up Phillips on the arena floor before finishing with the double stomp.
–Kurasawa (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (3-0) defeats Butch Long via submission to a Fujiwara armbar at 6:13:
Kurasawa loves stomps and kicks, using tons of them in a squash that the crowd tires of once it passes the four-minute mark. Terrible booking choice aside, Long does take a nice release German suplex before submitting to the Fijiwara armbar. After the match, WCW paramedics tend to Long as Kurasawa meditates.
–Brian Pillman (31-4) beats Ric Flair (10-1) via forfeit:
Pillman is awarded a forfeit win when Flair fails to appear after he is announced. Cruise goes to the locker room where Arn Anderson is irate that Flair has skipped out on him.
–United States Championship Match: Sting (Champion) (23-2) defeats Bunkhouse Buck (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (5-9) with a flying body press at 8:05:
Buck dominates much of the match, working Sting’s knee and when that does not work, he focuses on the back. He even does a modified STF where he sits on a camel clutch position and tries up Sting’s knee as well. That would have been a good finish for Buck instead of a fist off the ropes. When Sting makes his comeback, though, all of this gets forgotten and Sting flies off the top rope to prevail. Rating: **
–After the bell, Dick Slater hits the ring to attack Sting, but Randy Savage makes the save. Also, Sister Sherri forces herself on Parker some more and both of them spill into the ring as Sting and Savage have no idea what to do. Harlem Heat run out to get Sherri and that triggers a small fight with Slater and Buck.
–Cruise interviews Sting and Savage about WarGames. Savage puts over how awesome Sting is, while Sting says he and Savage are ready for war.
The Last Word: The show featured some good angle progression a week out from Fall Brawl. Not getting a Brian Pillman-Ric Flair match was a bummer but having Flair run out of the arena made sense for his story with Arn Anderson and neither he nor Pillman needed to take a loss going into the pay-per-view.
