–Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan are doing commentary and they are taped from Orlando, Florida.
–Opening Contest: Hacksaw Jim Duggan (26-3-1) pins Dave Dalton after a three-point stance clothesline at 2:05:
Duggan ribs ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta by swinging the American flag over his head, forcing Capetta to duck when announcing Dalton’s name. Duggan works up lots of chants as he throws Dalton all over the ring and notches another victory.
–Gene Okerlund interviews Dave Sullivan. Sullivan says that his rabbit Ralph gives him workout tips and he wants to get Diamond Dallas Page in “the circle squared.”
–The Nasty Boys (34-3-2) defeat Sledgehammer McGill & Tony Mella when Jerry Sags pins Mella after the Trip to Nastyville at 2:24;
Schiavone makes the silly observation that wrestlers cannot tag their own partner in the triangle match at Bash at the Beach, something Heenan jumps on and quickly corrects. Sags does not wait for McGill to take his robe off, clobbering him. Mella fares no better when he is tagged in, quickly succumbing to the Trip to Nastyville.
–Okerlund does the Bash at the Beach Control Center, which shows WCW Champion Hulk Hogan and a small kid winning a tug-of-war against four other men on a beach. Hogan hoists the kid on his shoulders, who appears indifferent during the interview, and talks about how the reputation of the WCW title is on the line. Jimmy Hart says that his man will prevail in the cage match on Sunday.
–Meng (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (22-1-1) pins Armondo Ayala after a leg drop at 1:19:
Ayala is a big guy, but Meng slams him several times. That gives him quicker special powers per WWF No Mercy logic, and he hits his thrust kick and adds a leg drop to win.
–Non-Title Match: Harlem Heat (WCW Tag Team Champions w/Sister Sherri) (31-4-2) beat Ron Thompson & Bart Sawyer when Booker T pins Thompson after the Heatseeker at 3:25:
Stevie Ray is so motivated that he throws a dropkick, setting up Thompson for a Harlem side kick courtesy of his brother. Booker opts to keep beating on Thompson rather than get the pin and Harlem Heat win their third straight match with the Heatseeker.
–Okerlund interviews Diamond Dallas Page and Maxx Muscle. Page gets the name of the pay-per-view wrong, calling it Beach Blast, while promising to keep rolling through WCW. How did WCW not force Page to redo this promo when he cannot get the proper name of the show right? It looks bush league.
–In a taped promo, Ric Flair says Randy Savage has problems beating him and repeats how he stole his wife and beat up his father.
–Randy Savage (9-1) pins Tex Slazenger (1-1) after the flying elbow smash in 41 seconds:
So Slazenger got a squash match on last week’s broadcast to build him for this main event. Thankfully this is kept short as Savage hits the ring, does not bother taking off his ring garb, and squashes Slazenger in less than a minute.
–Schiavone interviews Savage, who puts his hat on Schiavone’s head and says that Ric Flair can run from him but cannot hide at Bash at the Beach.
–Tune in next week to see Dave Sullivan wrestle Diamond Dallas Page! Also, Alex Wright, Kevin Sullivan, and Steve Austin will be in action!
The Last Word: The show was littered with squashes to put over some of the talents that would compete at Bash at the Beach, thereby giving the announcers ways that they could promote the show. However, that hardly made for an exciting hour of television. The Randy Savage-Ric Flair match has received very little build outside of dueling promos from both men, with WCW largely overlooking the lifeguard component to their lumberjack match.
