–Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan call the action to kick off a new set of tapings at Center Stage in Atlanta that were filmed on June 25. Tonight’s show is a one-hour episode.
–Opening Contest: Hacksaw Jim Duggan (25-3-1) pins Kip Abee after a three-point stance clothesline in 45 seconds:
Duggan uses a bodyslam and the three-point stance clothesline to get a quick win as Schiavone hypes Duggan’s scheduled match with Kamala at Bash at the Beach.
–The Master introduces the next Dungeon of Doom member, the Shark, who lived 2,000 leagues under the South China Sea and was brought by a tsunami. It is the new gimmick for John Tenta, who previously wrestled as Avalanche. The Shark screams about how he has a taste for Hulkamania. WCW treats the Shark as a complete newcomer, not mentioning his prior personality. That was largely due to WWF legal threats over the similarity between the Avalanche gimmick and Tenta’s prior work as Earthquake.
–Non-Title Match: The Renegade (Television Champion) (5-0) beats Rick Thames after the Renegade Splash in 34 seconds:
An insert promo plays during the Renegade’s entrance where the Renegade talks about how Arn Anderson was part of the past and he is part of the future. The promo lasts about as long as the squash.
–Road Warrior Hawk (1-0-1) pins Lieutenant James Earl (0-4) after a flying clothesline in 55 seconds:
Hawk delivers a gutwrench suplex where Earl just barely clears the canvas and his finisher follows.
–Gene Okerlund interviews Hawk. Hawk tells Okerlund that on July 4 he was watching fireworks, a kid put a cherry bomb under his seat, and it blew him into the sky. Okerlund wants Hawk to talk about Meng and the Road Warrior says that no one in WCW can hit him harder than he can hit Meng. This promo made very little sense and did not clarify why the Hawk-Meng feud should continue.
–Okerlund says that Kamala and the Shark will wrestle Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Marcus Bagwell on WCW Main Event tomorrow night.
–Kamala (w/Kevin Sullivan) (2-0) pins Steve Storm after a splash in 34 seconds:
The crowd works up a loud Hogan chant, but Kamala wins anyway in less than a minute. After the match, Kamala looks at Paul Wight, who is in the audience, and shrieks in terror. Sullivan looks over at Wight and then walks away, stewing over what he just saw.
–Vader does a taped promo where he vows to continue his carnage on the way to California. More footage of Vader in the USWA is shown where he beat up jobbers in Evansville, Indiana.
–The Blue Bloods (15-1-1) defeat Ron Thompson & Mike Davis when Lord Steven Regal makes Thompson submit to the Regal Stretch at 1:48:
Davis gets an easy payday as Thompson takes all the bumps and then the fall. It seems like Earl Robert Eaton is trying to reduce his bump card by not doing the Tower of London often, opting to do a flying knee drop instead. After the bell, Regal and Eaton take turns beating up Thompson while the other distracts Nick Patrick. With this win, the Blue Bloods complete the WCW Saturday Sweep.
–Schiavone interviews the Blue Bloods. Regal says that he respects Harlem Heat, but the Nasty Boys do not have the intelligence to win at Bash at the Beach.
–Randy Savage (8-1) defeats Bunkhouse Buck (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (5-7) after the flying elbow smash at 5:23:
Buck is nowhere near Savage’s level and Savage gets more than seventy percent of the offense in the match. That is just a lot of simple moves, though, until Savage hits the big elbow. Rating: ½*
–Okerlund interviews Savage, who promises to go into overdrive to defeat Ric Flair at Bash at the Beach. He also infringes on the Shark’s gimmick by telling Flair that he is the real shark attack.
The Last Word: WCW continued its one-hour Saturday Night strategy of working quick squash matches to get as many talents on the show as possible. Randy Savage needs new promo material, though, as he has nothing new to work with because he and Ric Flair have not interacted on screen since The Great American Bash.
