WCW Prime on June 5 featured a new match so we will get to that before heading to WCW Pro.
–Prime “MOOOOO” Match of the Week: Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (9-4) defeat Frankie Lancaster & Mark Starr when Buck pins Starr after an electric chair drop at 3:48:
Prime features another squash as a feature match, with Slater continuing to struggle with timing. He nearly falls over the top rope when he pulls it down for Starr to crash to the arena floor. Fists and chokes galore are on the menu, allowing Dusty Rhodes to bust out his “clubberin!” call, and Buck does a sloppy electric chair drop to give his team their tenth win of 1995. WCW should have just sacrificed Slater and Buck to the Nasties as their first title defense rather than using the Blue Bloods at The Great American Bash.
–And now for WCW Pro with Gordon Solie, Larry Zbyszko, and Dusty Rhodes doing commentary.
–Opening Contest: Hacksaw Jim Duggan (20-3) pins Chic Donovan after a three-point stance clothesline at 5:32:
Donovan goes back to his Memphis days, stalling a lot as Duggan works up “USA” chants and gets the crowd to clap. Donovan also gets more attempts at offense than most Duggan jobbers, with both men exchanging some stiff blows before Duggan prevails with the usual clothesline.
–Dave Sullivan (2-2) beats George South via submission to a modified backbreaker at 2:37:
Sullivan brings a rabbit to the ring, letting children pet it during his entrance. That rabbit was given to him as a gift by the Diamond Doll in April. This is Sullivan’s first match since March 11 as he has been rehabilitating from a kayfabed injury suffered at the hands of Vader on Saturday Night. Sullivan runs through a bunch of moves and then lifts South into a piledriver position, squeezing him tightly around the torso to get a submission win.
–Gene Okerlund provides The Great American Bash Report. Ric Flair delivers a taped promo where he promises to impose his will at the Bash.

–Meng (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (17-0-1) pins Mark Thorn after a thrust kick at 3:52:
Meng treats Thorn like a punching bag and Thorn does a good job bouncing off Meng’s kicks. In fact, Thorn lasts the longest of any jobber with Meng up to this point in the year. However, it was more impressive when Meng beat jobbers in less than a minute as these long bouts are exposing his lack of interesting offense.
-Sergeant Craig Pittman (18-0) defeats Brad Armstrong (2-4) via referee stoppage at 11:14:
This is announced as a “return match” from a couple of weeks ago when Armstrong lost to Pittman via official decision. There is an extended feeling out process, marking an interesting change of pace relative to other WCW matches as each competitor showcases their amateur skills and are wary of allowing the other man to work the arm. Armstrong eventually makes the first error when he goes to the top rope too slowly, allowing Pittman to knock him off and work the arm for a few minutes before locking in the Code Red. Just like their last encounter, Armstrong does not quit but the referee calls for the bell, keeping Pittman undefeated. This match will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it had a unique approach and the psychology was spot on throughout. Rating: ***
–The announcers do a brief sell for the Alex Wright-Ric Flair match that is headlining WCW Saturday Night.
The Last Word: The Craig Pittman-Brad Armstrong match is worth checking out if you are a fan of in-ring psychology. It showcases Armstrong’s ability to wrestle nearly any type of opponent on their level and making them look like a million bucks.
