May means May PPVs on the Network! Watching Judgment Day 2001 (coincidentally the first WWF PPV I ever saw in person) and I had a question I didn't ponder at the time…
We all know Triple H has a rep for not losing clean or often, yet he drops the IC belt to Kane on that show (with Stone Cold cocking up the interference), and then he and Austin lose the tag belts to the Canadian Violence Connection the following night. Austin gets to keep his title at Judgment Day, so my query is this: Was the plan to split Austin and H and run babyface Trips v. heel Austin before the quad injury and Invasion bullshit turned everything sideways?
That was indeed the plan. Long term thought was Wrestlemania 18's main event.
