Question about Punk/Cena at MITB

I wasn't following Meltzer or anyone else at the time. Did anyone report on Punk re-signing with WWE before the PPV? Did he re-sign last minute before anyone knew anything? Also, do you think there would be any chance Vince would still give him the win and hope to bring him back someday in the future had Punk not re-signed?

Side note: I was just watching the match, and while Booker and Lawler were awful, that was possibly the best match Michael Cole has ever called in my opinion.

Yeah, if you weren't around online at the time, it's tough to grasp how momentous that match really was. It actually took down the blog because traffic was so huge that night and made me gun-shy about self-hosting for years afterwards.

Regardless, no, there was no indication from anyone that Punk had signed or made any kind of agreement and that's what made it such a sensation. I do think that with no competition, Vince might have still put the title on him and then worked out the details later, yes. That's a very Vince thing to do.
