How come it’s a three count anyway?

Just wondering, as it's a one count in amateur wrestling
Was it just better for drama, or was it done to avoid confusion between amateur and pro? Or both?
Both. The Goldust Trio added a bunch of more showman-like aspects to the business during Strangler Lewis's heyday, including stuff like time-limit draws and countouts. I imagine that was one of them. The three count could actually give a dramatic finish to build towards, and allow things like a near-fall.
