–Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan are doing commentary and they are taped from Atlanta, Georgia. Heenan says that WCW Champion Hulk Hogan has showed up with an entourage. This is a one hour episode because of an Atlanta Braves baseball game.
–Opening Contest: Sting (11-1) beats El Cubano via submission to the Scorpion Deathlock at 1:33:
El Cubano has been wrestling as the Terrorist on prior shows but WCW must have realized that was in poor taste, possibly because of the Oklahoma City bombing that took place on April 19. Sting gets tired of selling Cubano’s blows, finishing with the Stinger Splash and Scorpion Deathlock.
–Gene Okerlund tells fans to tune into Main Event tomorrow night to see Johnny B. Badd wrestle Paul Orndorff in the U.S. title tournament.
–A video package hypes Meng’s martial arts abilities.
–Meng (w/Colonel Robert Parker) (12-0) pins Ken Brewer after a thrust kick at 1:54:
Meng opts to use more than one move on Brewer, blasting him with a series of blows to the head and hitting a nasty looking chokeslam. The referee must feel bad for Brewer as Meng stands over him after the thrust kick and the referee goes ahead and counts the pinfall.
–Schiavone interviews Parker and Meng. Parker says that Meng is the greatest athlete of all-time and they are going to turn Brian Pillman into a “beat up young boy.” This promo wandered all over the place.
–Okerlund does the Slamboree Control Center segment. Big Bubba Rogers does a taped promo where he says he will make Sting cry to his mama. The Nasty Boys repeat their pledge to three-peat in their last chance at the WCW tag team titles.
–Non-Title Match: Arn Anderson (Television Champion) (9-9-2) pins Eddie Jackie after a DDT at 2:37:
The crowd is full of vocal Anderson fans as they work up a loud DDT chant as he stretches Jackie. Eventually Anderson gives into them by doing Jake Roberts taunt and hitting his finisher to end a two-match losing streak in singles competition.
–Non-Title Match: Harlem Heat (WCW Tag Team Champions w/Sister Sherri) (19-2-2) defeat Barry Houston & Frankie Lancaster when Booker T pins Houston after a powerbomb-flying elbow drop combination at 1:55:
The Heat waste little time making a statement, brutalizing Lancaster when he makes the mistake of getting too close to their corner and then Stevie Ray cuts off Houston’s attempted offense with a gorilla press slam to set up the finish.
–Schiavone interviews Harlem Heat and Sherri, who say that the Nasties do not have what it takes to win their titles. Sherri screams a lot but adds little to what her two charges have already said.
–A video package recaps the Hulk Hogan-Ric Flair rivalry.
–United States Championship Tournament First Round: Randy Savage (5-0) beats the Butcher (2-1) after the flying elbow smash at 2:32:
Savage has not wrestled a singles match since facing Avalanche on Saturday Night on March 25. Schiavone mentions that the Butcher is referring to himself now as the “Man with No Name” but yet for the purposes of this event he is still referred to by his Faces of Fear name. Savage squashes the Butcher after escaping the sleeper hold, a proper ending because the Butcher has zero momentum since being kicked out of the Faces of Fear. It does not bode well for the Butcher’s chances at Slamboree against Kevin Sullivan, but WCW has so little faith in that match that they are giving it away on free television on Worldwide next week.
–After the bell, Ric Flair and Arn Anderson try to attack Savage but the Renegade comes to Savage’s aid. Vader walks out with a chair, but Hulk Hogan hits him from behind with the WCW title, which Vader does not sell, and the heels decide to retreat rather than engage in a six-way brawl.
–Schiavone interviews Hogan, Savage, the Renegade, and Jimmy Hart. Hogan says that their secret weapon at Slamboree will be Angelo Poffo.
The Last Word: One-hour Saturday Night broadcasts tend to breeze by and this was no exception as WCW still aired five matches and gave exposure to the big acts at Slamboree. However, all of the major feuds have gone as far as they can go without having a match since the interviews are getting repetitive.
