Hulk Hogan politicking in WCW

Was it true that during WCW's first World War 3 PPV in 1995, that Hogan called an audible towards the end of the battle royal that saw the Giant reach in and eliminate him illegally to give Hogan an "out" for not winning, when he was supposed to have been eliminated cleanly?
The Observer doesn't say anything about it in that issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Hogan knows how to protect himself above all else.
