Matt Hardy’s “retirement”?

Matt Hardy apparently announced his "retirement" a while ago on social media, yet the WWE has yet to acknowledge it. Do you know what is going on here?
I don't really see what the point of them covering it on TV would be, to be honest. Unless it's somehow tied to an angle, Matt probably didn't want a big deal made out of it.
