All In, Souled Out

The idea of All In–a "rogue" PPV put on by a cool heel/tweener stable with the purpose of putting themselves over and thumbing their nose at the establishment–got me thinking about Souled Out 1997, a show that (in kayfabe) tried to be the same thing more than twenty years earlier, but utterly failed.
All In has proved that that idea is viable. Could it have worked in 1997 WCW, had it been handled differently? Or does All In only work because its audience knows that it's a real-life labor of love?
Bonus question: what other stables, past or present, would you like to see put on their own PPVs?
There was a lot of moving parts that came together to make All In work. Souled Out was like a fake wrestling show trying too hard to be cool. It wouldn’t have worked anyway because deep down everyone knew it was all just WCW.
As for other stables, I just don’t see how one faction or stable can put on a PPV without other people and then it’s just another show.
