–Gordon Solie, Dusty Rhodes, and Larry Zbyszko are doing commentary and they are concluding the tapings in Dalton, Georgia.
–Non-Title Match: Big Van Vader (United States Champion w/Harley Race) (1-0) beats J.R. Willett with a flapjack at 1:18:
Vader is shown without the U.S. title because this match was taped before Starrcade and WCW did not want to spoil things. Vader tosses around the smaller Willett with ease and flapjacks him twice for the win.
–Johnny B. Badd (3-1) defeats Carl Fergie with a top rope sunset flip:
Badd is hoping to regain the Television Championship from Arn Anderson at Clash of the Champions and he paves the way for such a feat in this bout, dazing Fergie with some jabs and then finishing with a top rope sunset flip. The ease with which Badd won was impressive since Fergie has a decent amount of offense against other stars. My copy of this show had some tracking errors so I cannot give a match time.
–Gene Okerlund provides the Clash of the Champions Report. Do not forget that Big Van Vader said that he will be there!
–Alex Wright (5-0) defeats Pat Rose with a reverse flying body press at 1:19:
Rose was a long-time veteran, having held the NWA Southeast Tag Team Championship with Arn Anderson in the 1980s. He even got a “Where Are They Now?” profile on wwe.com in 2007. Wright uses his usual array of moves to win another enhancement match.
–Today’s flashback is from Bash at the Beach 1994 where Ricky Steamboat wrestled Steve Austin for the United States Championship. Austin retained his title with the Flair pin.
–Call 1-900-909-9900 to find out what Jesse Ventura and Jim Ross are doing! WCW was spreading a false rumor that Ventura was heading back to the WWF to do commentary on Monday Night RAW.
–In today’s arm wrestling challenge, Diamond Dallas Page issues an open challenge. Van Hammer answers, but Page feigns an injury and refuses to face him. Dave Sullivan had come to check out the action and retreats to the locker room when Page and Kimberly come near him.
–Lord Steven Regal & Jean Paul Levesque defeat Brad & Scott Armstrong (1-1) when Regal pins Scott after blocking a monkey flip out of the corner at 10:36:
As noted in the Main Event review, Regal and Levesque were supposed to become the Blue Bloods but Levesque decided to leave for the WWF in early 1995 and WCW had to change plans. Dusty puts over Levesque’s look, but Solie puts him down by saying that he is the “weak link” in his team. The Regal-Levesque pairing needs better double team moves when they put Brad in peril, although they work the crowd well with some false tag spots. The four way brawl after the hot tag gets messy, with Regal using the ropes and then opting not to use them for the winning pin. That aside, this was a good display of technical wrestling. Rating: **½
–The announcers encourage fans to watch WCW Saturday Night. They also put over Clash of the Champions.
The Last Word: The broadcast had an above average main event so that always makes for a good edition of WCW Pro. Alex Wright is getting a lot of exposure on television, possibly putting him in position for a shot at the Television Championship down the road.
