Most Competitive Squash Match

By Scott Keith on 8 July 2018

Hey Scott,

Recently, Jericho talked about an amazing squash match that Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond had with Demolition, which he was going to try to emulate with Goldberg during his "Greenberg" feud. Do you know what he was talking about?

On a related note, Lightning Kid/Razor Ramon excepted, what was the most competitive squash you’ve ever seen? Similarly, what was the "best" squash match you’ve ever see? By that I mean, a squash match that was so utterly awesome, you feel it did the most for the star?

Thanks.

I’m unfamiliar with the Demolition match in question, but it sounds like an amazing addition to Unreleased Volume 2. Although Pat never worked in the WWF until Demolition was close to broken up, so I’m not sure if maybe Chris is mis-remembering something? I mean, there’s Orient Express v. Demolition matches from just before WM6 and one of them was on a Coliseum video, but that was Tanaka & Sato, not Diamond.

Anyway, the most competitive squash I’ve ever seen was an amazing Ric Flair v. Mike Jackson match from WCW, as they always gave Jackson a lot and Flair just decided to go out and have a match with the dude and it was GREAT. There was also a Ray Traylor match early in his career with Tully Blanchard where he went up for the slingshot suplex at 400 pounds and made Tully look like a complete badass, and that earned him a job.
