Missed opportunities

Looking at some of the better examples of booking lately (unsurprisingly, generally in NXT), it got me thinking;

Nikki Cross is basically playing the persona that Dean Ambrose should have had – absolute nutcase who thrives on pain and keeps coming back for more. That character in his feud v Lesnar, for instance, would have been interesting.

Another example; Gargano and Ciampa is amazing, but I can’t help but feel if they’d done this (or similar) with Owens and Zayn, it would also have been a great fit for the "best friends make the best enemies" sort of pattern. We never really got to see them give us the full-blown blood feud they could have.

Can you or the BoD commenters think of any other similar things? Characters that are great now, but could easily have been applied to a previous wrestler(s) and worked wonders for them?

Yeah, the Authors of Pain gimmick should have went to the Ascension to name one.
