–A video package recaps last week’s tag team title match between Owen Hart & Yokozuna and Razor Ramon & Savio Vega. Also, WWF Champion Diesel and Sir Mo cut dueling promos against each other for their match, with Diesel saying that he is going to welcome Mo to the “castle of coolness.”
–Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler are doing commentary and they are concluding the tapings in Louisville, Kentucky.
–Opening Contest for the WWF Tag Team Championship: Owen Hart & Yokozuna (Champions w/Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji) (12-0-1) defeat Razor Ramon & Savio Vega (0-2-1) when Yokozuna pins Savio after a leg drop at 12:10 shown:
It does not take long for the heels to seize the advantage in this rematch of last week’s bout, with Yokozuna blasting Ramon in the back of the head when he runs the ropes and the champions doing some timely switches. Owen even hits a flying headbutt, a move that he usually misses in big matches and which typically triggers a babyface comeback. After enduring about ten minutes of punishment, Savio gets the hot tag, but the crowd is lukewarm to his entry into the match. Savio holds his own for a time, but Yokozuna gets him one-on-one and squashes him with a leg drop, with Ramon coming in just a millisecond too late to break the count and the champions retain. This match told a better story than last week, which was rushed, but the ending felt flat. The crowd was also more subdued because they had seen the participants earlier in the evening. Rating: **½
–Dean Douglas’ “Report Card” segments sees him give Savio and Razor a “t” for “terrible twosome” after their effort in the last match.
–In a new vignette, Isaac Yankem gives some x-rays to a patient – with some x-ray sound effects and visuals mixed in – while Jerry Lawler says that his dentist will soon expose Bret Hart and destroy him at SummerSlam. These segments are getting really tedious since we are stuck in a dentist’s office and are no closer to seeing Yankem in action.
–Fatu (1-1) pins Tony DeVito after a top rope splash at 2:44:
Fatu wrestles much of the bout with a red toboggan on, which McMahon admits is weird. Instead of focusing on the match, Lawler prefers to talk about his match against Shawn Michaels on next week’s show and McMahon hypes USA Network’s showing of An Officer and a Gentleman. Fatu’s version of the Diamond Cutter is called a “Samoan bulldog” and that sets up Fatu’s trademark splash for the finish.

–Todd Pettengill interviews interim WWF President Gorilla Monsoon as part of the SummerSlam “Insider” segment. Monsoon announces that there will be a match for the WWF Women’s title at SummerSlam as Alundra Blayze will defend her title against Bertha Faye. King Mabel also cuts a promo, calling himself the leader of the New Generation and how Sir Mo will begin the royal plan against WWF Champion Diesel tonight.
–Kama (w/Ted DiBiase) (22-0-1) beats Troy Haste via submission to a cross armbreaker at 1:25:
Sid calls into the show during this match, ranting about how he was unjustly replaced in the Intercontinental title match at SummerSlam. According to Dave Meltzer, this segment was put into the broadcast to let fans know that Sid was still a part of the company. Kama puts very little effort into this match, beating up Haste in the corner and locking in a cross armbreaker for a submission win. Then, he yells at the Creatures of the Night at ringside, with Vince McMahon stating that Kama is becoming more aggressive toward the Undertaker’s fans as SummerSlam approaches.
–Barry Didinski tries to sell fans on buying a new Shawn Michaels t-shirt that has lots of Michaels quotes and his picture on it. The shirt is really, really horrid but you can buy yours for $16 (plus shipping & handling). You can also get a free copy of the WWF cage match magazine. Lawler lets Didinski know that the t-shirt will be a collector’s item because he will run Michaels out of the WWF.
–Non-Title Match: Diesel (WWF Champion) (7-0-1) beats Sir Mo after a Jackknife at 6:51 shown:
This is Diesel’s first match on cable television since May when he faced Henry Godwinn on Superstars. Mabel does not accompany Mo to ringside but he walks out minutes into the match after his tag team partner gets knocked to the floor with a big boot. Mabel teases attacking Diesel, but Shawn Michaels comes out to prevent that from happening and all of this interaction serves to hype the tag team main event for Madison Square Garden in several weeks. Mo controls the middle portion of the match, with the announcers talking about Diesel’s past injuries, but Mo does not go after Diesel’s recently injured elbow so it makes that point mute, and when he misses an awkward flying elbow, Diesel puts him away in short order. Rating: ½*
–After the bell, Mabel attacks Diesel, with Shawn Michaels coming to his partner’s aid. However, when Michaels tries to pescado onto Mabel on the floor, Mabel catches him and rams him several times into the ring post. Unfortunately, this does not make Mabel look like as big of a monster as he could be because Diesel flies off the ring apron with an ax handle and Mabel retreats to the locker room. Lawler uses the segment to brag about how he is going to beat Michaels on next week’s show.
–Tune in next week to see Shawn Michaels square off against Jerry Lawler!
The Last Word: The ending segment came off well, even though it would have been better for Mabel to completely annihilate Diesel and Shawn Michaels and stand tall in the ring because even though he has won the King of the Ring title, Mabel is in desperate need of more credibility to be seen as a threat to the WWF Championship at this stage of his career. The build for Michaels-Lawler was well done on this show too, with Lawler’s gloating at the end of the broadcast making viewers want to see him get destroyed by Michaels on next week’s live broadcast.
