–Opening Non-Title Contest: Owen Hart & Yokozuna (WWF Tag Team Champions w/Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji) (2-0) beat John Crystal & Leroy Howard after Yokozuna pins Crystal after a Banzai Drop at 2:46:
Howard’s commits a hilarious botch as he takes out his own partner with a double axe handle off the top rope when he means to hit Owen’s extended arm in a double team spot. Yokozuna manhandles Crystal and finishes him with the Banzai Drop as Owen puts Howard in the Sharpshooter. Not surprisingly, this was Howard’s last appearance in a WWF squash match.
–A video hypes the Smoking Gunns to Western film music.
–Intercontinental Champion Jeff Jarrett says that he is very confident and he will show Aldo Montoya why he is the world’s greatest wrestler on today’s show.
–Razor Ramon (8-2-1) pins Mark Starr after the Razor’s Edge at 3:43:
Fans like to joke about how Kidman could not be powerbombed, but Ramon could never be crossbodied as he always turned those attempts into a fallaway slam. Ramon stretches and roughs up Starr, pinning him with one foot and ostensibly sending a message to Jeff Jarrett.
–Hunter-Hearst Helmsley refuses to talk to Vince McMahon in an interview segment.
–Stephanie Wiand hypes upcoming WWF house shows in the New York area. The main event in the Nassau Coliseum will be a twenty-man battle royal featuring the Blu Brothers, Adam Bomb, King Kong Bundy, and others and the winner will receive a WWF title shot against Diesel later in the night. Also, Jeff Jarrett will defend the Intercontinental title against Razor Ramon, with the Roadie suspended above the ring in a cage. For Madison Square Garden the company has booked a WWF title match between Diesel and Sid. And at the Meadowlands, Diesel, the Undertaker, and a mystery partner will face Sid, Tatanka, and Kama.
–Aldo Montoya says that he is confident that he will win the Intercontinental title today.
–McMahon and Hendrix review the recent actions of Sid and his membership in the Million Dollar Corporation.
–Kama (w/Ted DiBiase) (10-0) defeats Tony Roy with a flying knee drop to the back at 2:24:
Brandon Mitchell, a really young kid, does the ring announcing duties and does better than the last few fans. He even gets the pronunciation of DiBiase’s name right. Hendrix links Roy’s name to the release of Rob Roy in theatres and Roy fights with some of the same tenacity at first, clotheslining Kama out of the ring. He even gets a small chant from the crowd since he is a native of New Hampshire. However, Kama is quick to get back on the offensive and alters his finisher again.
–More footage of Bob Backlund on spring break is shown. He criticizes the dress of the women he sees and tries to get a bikini contest banned. McMahon and Hendrix say that Backlund will make a big announcement on May 15, with Hendrix saying that Backlund wants to announce his engagement to Attorney General Janet Reno.
–Intercontinental Championship Match: Jeff Jarrett (Champion w/The Roadie) (8-5) beats Aldo Montoya (7-2) via submission to the figure-four leg lock at 8:44 shown:
McMahon announces that Jarrett and the Roadie will face Razor Ramon and the 1-2-3 Kid in a tag team match at In Your House as this one gets underway, with Montoya having earned a title shot by beating Jarrett in a non-title match two weeks ago. One of the worst parts of Jarrett using the figure-four as a finisher is that he rarely sets in up in matches. For example, Hendrix builds a story on commentary of how Jarrett should go after the knee, especially after Montoya misses high-risk moves, but when this happens in the bout Jarrett just pounds away on random body parts. After the Roadie trips Montoya as he runs the ropes, Razor Ramon comes out and chases the Roadie to the locker room and that triggers some Montoya near-falls, but Jarrett ducks Montoya’s finisher and wins with the figure-four, despite a failure to work the leg during the bout. Rating: **
–McMahon and Hendrix discuss the house you can win at In Your House.
–Wiand continues to pitch the WWF house shows in the New York area.
–Hunter-Hearst Helmsley appears to be disgusted by the cameraman that is supposed to film his recent vignette.
–Duke Droese (9-1) pins Roy Raymond after the Trash Compactor at 3:39:
Since Droese lost to Jean-Pierre LaFitte on Monday Night RAW this bout serves to help him rebuild some momentum in the singles division. McMahon rips Raymond’s attempts at offense, which include some weak-looking kicks, and Droese responds by taking his head off with a clothesline and finishing with the Trash Compactor shortly thereafter.
–Hunter-Hearst Helmsley refuses to speak to McMahon and Hendrix yet again.
–Tune in next week to see Hakushi face off with Kwang!
The Last Word: The Intercontinental title match was fine and the piped in crowd noise helped but one could hardly expect a great match since it was the second time that Jarrett and Montoya had to wrestle at this television taping. Also, Jarrett’s inability to work the leg throughout the match hurt the finish. The other squashes were boring this week, with lots of guys slowly working through their offense, and very little was done to advance feuds toward In Your House beyond Razor Ramon chasing the Roadie backstage in the feature match.
