question about dark matches

By Scott Keith on 18 April 2017

Scott,

Love the site and the questions you answer.

Reliving 1992 through the recaps especially SummerSlam 1992, made me realize just how many dark matches were actually dark before the Free For All era began, and now with the 7 hour PPVs only on the WWE Network. Can WWE put up a collection of Dark Matches or will they have to pay those wrestlers royalties as the matches were never originally broadcast or part of the home video release?

They can do whatever they want with any wrestler’s footage in perpetuity, so absolutely they could put up dark matches. Anything originally filmed by WWE is property of WWE, including all wrestlers and likenesses therein, no payments needed.
