The SmarK Rant for UWF Wrestling – 06.07.86
Taped from Tulsa, OK
Your hosts are Jim Ross & Michael Hayes
This one is only 24 minutes long so they’ve really edited it down.
Kamala v. Johnny Rich
A pair of splashes finish at :20 as Akbar challenges any team in the UWF to face his team of Kamala and One Man Gang.
Meanwhile, we recap the saga with the Russians and Eddie Gilbert, leading up to the brawl with Bill Watts and flag burial last week. I don’t know who the two musclebound idiots backing up Eddie are, but I can guarantee they probably didn’t go anywhere in the sport.
Meanwhile, an enraged Cowboy does a promo from his house, talking about how ENTIRE COUNTRIES have been buried by the Russian flag over the years, but America needs to stand up and do all the dirty tricks that the Russians don’t. “Thank god for President Reagan in Libya!” notes the Cowboy, but literally no one else in the world. Also he thinks that if you want to teach the Middle East a lesson, you should bomb their oil refineries in the dead of night! I can’t see that backfiring on America at all. Good to know we’ve found the one person who thinks the current direction is a great idea.
Korchenko & The Koloffs v. Perry Jackson, Jeff Gaylord & Ken Massey
Gaylord doesn’t even get to tag in as the Russians destroy Jackson and then Nikita finishes Massey with the Sickle at 1:20. JR still manages to put Gaylord over as a former football star even when he’s getting tossed out of the ring like garbage. And the Russians bury the jobber under the flag for good measure.
Brett Wayne Sawyer v. Jack Victory
Victory has Mad Maxxine in his corner, and Sawyer hits him with an atomic drop to send him into the corner. Victory beats him down to take over and puts the boots to him. Sawyer makes a comeback but misses a charge and Victory stomps him down again. But then Dark Journey comes out to confront Maxxine, and Sawyer tosses Victory over the top for the DQ at 4:30 as the ladies get into a hairpulling brawl. Crazy heat for this one.
UWF TV title: Buzz Sawyer v. Terry Taylor
Chavo Guerrero joins Taylor at ringside to counter Rick Steiner, and they fight over the lockup before Taylor grabs a headlock to control. Terry cranks on that and backdrops Buzz out of the corner before dropkicking him to the floor. Back in the ring, Taylor grabs another headlock, but misses a bodypress and bumps to the floor. Back in, Buzz hits him with a suplex and goes to the top, but he misses a flying headbutt in dramatic fashion and Terry makes the comeback. But then Steiner trips him up, so Chavo puts Taylor’s foot on the ropes and it only gets two. Sawyer tries another suplex, but Taylor reverses to a cradle and wins the TV title at 4:36 as the credits roll! And WE ARE DESPERATELY OUT OF TIME AND WE’LL SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!
Well this show was pretty great. And then tomorrow, join us on the blog as we review Memphis from the same day in 1986 and see if they can top this one!
