Hail King Regal

I recall William Regal beating CM Punk(?) to win the King of the Ring crown back on an episode of Raw probably a decade back. I just remember the show closing with Regal sitting on the throne with his hair falling into this absolutely cold, vile stare on his face. I immediately thought that it was going to be the greatest thing ever, but Regal unfortunately got popped for some kind of illegal substance that same week and the push went down the toilet.

Any idea where they were ultimately going with that? Where there at least plans to run shows with Regal at the top and feed him to the top babyface?

​I think that Regal has said in the past that he was going to be a World title challenger off that at the very least, but as noted the drug failure completely derailed him. King Regal was such a natural idea that I’m shocked no one had ever thought of it before, frankly. ​
